Turkey arrests academics backing peace with Kurds

Turkish police today arrested individuals who voiced their support for peace with the Kurds.


ISTANBUL, Jan. 15, 2016 – (dpa) – Turkish police today arrested academics who voiced their support for  peace with the Kurds. Turkish police arrested 14 lecturers and were seeking to detain seven others after they signed a petition calling for peace with Kurds in the southeast of the country.

The move came after an uptick in violence in the region.
