Pew polls refute Obama’s claims about ‘moderate Muslims’

Foreign Muslims overwhelmingly support sharia as the “law of the land” for followers Muslims, but large numbers favor imposing it on non-Muslims as well.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., February 16, 2015 — President Obama has been using imaginary numbers again. These ones are refuted by an alarming poll conducted by the Pew Research Center.

Obama has never lacked for imagination, as when he said, “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” and, “Al-Qaeda is dead.” He also drew an imaginary red line in the sand.

Yet his comment to CNN’s Fareed Zackaria this month that “99.9% of Muslims are moderate” and reject the radical tenets of the Islamic State makes Obama seem like a refugee from a CGI world.

The Pew survey dramatically clashes with Obama’s figures regarding Muslims and so-called “moderate Islam.” White House critics do not believe that the war on terror is a war on Islam, but only on what we call “Islamic extremism.” But that Islamic extremism is far more than a tiny, 0.1 percent fringe. The Pew poll not only refutes the White House ideology, it also blows a huge hole into arguments regarding “moderate Islam.”

Much Muslim discontent comes from younger age groups; a 2007 Pew study found that 26 percent of American Muslims between the ages of 18 to 29 believe that suicide bombings against non-Muslims are “justifiable.” It was worse in Europe: 35 percent of young British Muslims and 42 percent of young French Muslims agreed.

Investor’s Business Daily’s Paul Sperry observes, “vast majorities of Muslims abroad ‘clearly support’ barbaric forms of Islamic punishment, including: stoning women accused of cheating on their husbands, chopping off the hands of thieves and robbers, publicly whipping people who ‘insult’ Islam, and beheading those who convert to another religion.”

If you do not believe it, just look at the protests in Great Britain over the murder of three Muslim students in Chapel Hill, N.C. They did not protest the beheadings of American journalists or the medieval burning of a Jordanian pilot, but they took to the streets for the shootings in Chapel Hill.

Recently Egypt and Jordan have been in the news for different reasons, but overall those two countries are regarded as relatively “moderate” when it comes to Islamic ideology. Not according to a 2013 Pew poll, however. Some 86 percent of Egyptians and 82 percent of Jordanians believe it is all right to kill people who abandon Islam for another religion.

Furthermore, the survey showed that foreign Muslims overwhelmingly support sharia as the “law of the land” for followers of Islam. This is the same sharia used by ISIS, which, according to Obama, is not Islam.

According to Pew, most foreign Muslims want “religious judges” to be appointed to enforce sharia.

Another troubling aspect of Pew’s research is that large segments of Islamic societies favor “honor killings” for daughters who indulge in premarital sex.

Sperry notes that “a majority of devout Muslims here don’t think Muslims should adopt ‘American customs.’ They think the Muslim community should remain distinct from American society, and they frown on other Muslim immigrants assimilating into American life.”

This is the same pattern that has resulted in the so-called “no-go zones” in Europe, a phenomenon vehemently denied by some liberals, yet which kept Martine Aubry, mayor of Lilles and daughter of Jacques Delors out of a neighborhood in Roubaix, which was claimed as his own by a local imam. In another non-existent no-go zone in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, Muslim pedophile gangs victimized 1400 young girls over a period of 16 years, while the authorities saw nothing. These non-existent zones threaten to overrun several major cities if they are not held in check.

Back in America, 60 percent of Muslims under 30 claim they are more loyal to Islam than to the United States. Fifty-five percent of all American Muslims do not believe the U.S. is simply fighting a war against terrorism. In fact, nearly half of American Muslims do not believe the 9/11 attacks were conducted by Muslims.

People often ask why “moderate Muslims” do not speak out against terrorist incidents around the world. Perhaps these numbers explain why.

When reporters and anchors speak of Islam, the tagline is always, “the large majority of Muslims are peaceful.” Maybe so, but Pew’s numbers indicate approval and support to the contrary, regardless of whether Muslims themselves are peaceful.

Obama is intent on distinguishing between Islamist, Islamic extremism, and Islam. But it is time for the media to wake up and stop making distinctions between Islam and extremism. More and more, Islam is extreme.

Obama will hold another of his useless intellectual summits to discuss what needs to be done about global terror. In the end there will be much talk and no action, as usual. But it will sound good and make news for the media. Just like his phony statistics.

You are writing in 2015, and using PEW from 2007. There are many more recent PEW polls. The support for terrorism has come down in them.

FYI, I’m Jewish, and not a fan of the Muslim hate at Jews that’s so common at least now a days. But an article that’s this far off from current times, isn’t helpful.
