CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 8, 2015 – It is easy to be compassionate when you are not the country inundated by a mass migration from the Middle East.
As if Greece didn’t have enough economic problems of its own to deal with, Breitbart News is reporting, the island of Lesbos has become a war zone as thousands of rioting refugees have been involved in repeated uprisings.
Situated just six miles off the coast of mainland Turkey, Lesbos is easily accessible by boat. Hundreds of Muslim refugees are fleeing daily to the tiny “haven,” which has a population of only 85,000.
Other islands are certain to be similarly affected as the migrants hopscotch from place to place in search of some semblance of sanctuary.
Ironically, the rioting on Lesbos is being carried out by the very people who claim to be fleeing the violence in war torn Syria.
The irony is also a metaphor for future problems facing Western Europe because as the numbers increase, so, too, will the upheaval. Refugees seeking asylum are in no way ready, or willing, to assimilate into European culture(s), and their Islamic background only poses greater difficulties for the future, not the least of which is the high probability of increased terrorist activity.
The complex has now become even more complex. The situation cannot be simply thrust aside as the result of civil war in Syria. The struggle goes far deeper than that, to such a degree that even the United States and the Obama administration are complicit in what is currently happening in Europe.
While that may sound like piling on, the truth of the matter is that the only saving grace for the U.S. is two massive oceans that separate us from the onslaught of Islamic immigration that is occurring in Europe.
ISIS is the outgrowth of inept foreign policies under the leadership of Barack Obama. At the same time, the commander in chief, who last week was busy doing a reality television show in Alaska, sent “Vietnam war hero” John Kerry to Geneva to negotiate an arms deal with Iran.
Kerry got his “arrangement” and Obama boasted about the significance of its appeasing approach to global affairs.
What the administration does not say, however, is that Iran is providing support for the upheaval in Syria and for ISIS. With an influx of cash thanks to the proposed lifting of sanctions, Tehran will only have more money to spend, not only on its nuclear program, but also to fund the war in Syria.
Thus, as Syrians flee their homeland in droves, Europe is forced to deal with choosing compassion for human rights and/or telling the Muslims migrants to go elsewhere.
Logically, Muslim believers would head to the east, where people of similar backgrounds should offer a more congenial cultural environment.
It speaks volumes that the Gulf States themselves are refusing to accept migrants. Furthermore, refugees are keenly aware that the overall prosperity of the West combined with far greater stability is light-years more appealing than relocating back into the desert.
Perhaps most alarming for Western Europe in the long run will be the inability by Gulf State Muslims to assimilate into their new environments. Over time that will lead to even greater dissatisfaction, demands and, ultimately, unrest.
Countries such as Greece, Spain and Italy are ill equipped to handle a surge of humanity that will drain their economies further.
Other countries that are better able to absorb the influx will quickly discover the increasing demands on their own culture, which is already growing disproportionally, will become significantly worse.
For now the migration itself is the primary concern, but it is only the beginning and the West must quickly figure out a means to deal with it before it becomes intolerable and economically unfeasible.
