Belize: Retirement oasis in Corazal

Corozal, Belize offers a unique retirement and vacation destination that has mild weather, and lots of activities.

BELIZE,  May 12, 2015 – The buzz among both expats and native Belizeans is that Corozal is the place to be. With real estate prices lower than in many other areas of Belize, Corozal offers an outstanding location to live.

Located in north of Belize, residents enjoy warm tropical days receiving far less rain than the monsoon-drenched areas in the south.  Location-wise, Corozal has the advantage of being near the Mexican border, just nine miles away. Both the Mexican town of Chetumal and the Belizean duty-free zone are close.

Having Mexico just a short drive away means being able to take advantage of big-box retailers, shopping malls and Sam’s Club. Returning to Corozal, residents indulge in a leisurely life of sailing, swimming, fishing and amateur archeology, or perhaps just a vibrant social life.

A local museum offers informative stimulation, and the city is dotted with lovely parks and green spaces.

Blessed with a picturesque and lovely main square, Corozal offers residents and visitors alike a delightful Latin ambiance.

A community swimming pool, karaoke bars and art exhibitions bring together the residents of this English-speaking town on the shore of the gorgeous Corozal Bay.

Resisting the rampage of overeager developers, the waterfront along the bay is partially fronted by a delightful green parkland that offers outstanding views.

For those interested in exploring local culture, the nearby Santa Rita site offers a view into the Mayan past. Many of the historic buildings were built of stones pillaged from the ruins of Santa Rita, where the Mayans once conducted sacred ceremonies.

Many retirees cherish the laid-back, relaxed lifestyle offered in Belize. When outstanding entertainment and dining options are available at affordable prices, life in Belize can be extremely economical. Visitors and locals love to amble through the big open-air market in town, where everything from handmade clothing to snacks are sold in a dizzying array of variety.

Restaurants offer authentic Mexican food, familiar American favorites and local Belizean dishes to satisfy every taste, all at very low prices.

With an ideal tropical climate, the convenience of low-cost material goods, affordable real estate prices and the generous tax provisions in Belize, living in Corozal is extremely enjoyable.

I recently read several pages and guest posts on the site Retirement And Good Living about retiring in Belize. The site has many guest posts on its blog by expats who retired to various locations in Central and South America, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.
