BUFFALO, NY — The 2020 Ford Escape is all-new with the next-generation gasoline and a hybrid option. You may remember that the Escape was the first electric SUV on the market in 2005 and they are offering an all-new electric SUV again. We recently spent some quality time, road testing the gasoline and hybrid (non-plug-in versions); the plug-in Escape will be coming in the next few months. The real difference between the two powertrains is the fuel economy and torque.
Torque is felt when you drive off from a traffic light and the push you feel into the seat. With that non-technical description, the hybrid is much faster but tows much less. The gas version will haul 3500 pounds and the hybrid only 1500 pounds. This all depends on your lifestyle and what important to you.
Step inside:
Standard is Ford’s Co-Pilot360, an advanced suite of standard driver-assist technologies that includes: Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Auto High-Beam Headlamps, Lane-Keeping System, Rear View Camera, Evasive Steer Assist (standard on Titanium models), Stop and Go Cruise control and Lane Centering; plus additional technology available that is designed to help keep you in command, from the driveway to the highway;
We love the new wider, longer and lower styling with more head, shoulder, knee and legroom the 2020 Ford Escape has In addition, the trunk space is much larger, large enough to carry six sets of golf clubs. Even the center console is huge, its large enough to hold a 10” laptop/tablet or a medium-sized purse.
Best of all the seating comfort and visibility are much improved over the previous Escape. We are disappointed in the plastic head-up display on the higher trim levels and the lack of lumbar on the passenger front seat.
The Escape is available in 10 exterior colors and five trim levels to meet your budgets. The price of the new Escape will certainly make you reconsider the competitive set with a starting price of $24,885. The Escape competes with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, KIA Sportage, Subaru Forester to name a few.
