Falkenthal received First Place for “Column, Daily Reporting and Writing” for her body of work created for “Ringside Seat.” The award is given to the best writing of the year in any ongoing column on any topic. The judges noted:

“Writer was consistent in reporting and providing good detail, quotes and context. For a non-boxing fan, in one case, writer put the reader at ringside and helped me understand boxing from a more enlightened perspective.”

Falkenthal also won First Place for “Online Multimedia Package” for the individual column, “Molina looks for career boost on Toe to Toe Tuesday, FS1 Boxing series,” published January 16, 2016. With regard to this piece, the judges noted approvingly that Falkenthal exhibited “Solid writing mixed with interesting videos.”

Falkenthal interviews and shot video of Molina at the Wild Card West Gym in Santa Monica, California and edited the videos for the piece.

Falkenthal took a Second Place award for “Sports Story, Daily Reporting and Writing” for “Pro, amateur boxers shouldn’t mix in the Rio Olympic Games” published June 3, 2016.

She also received a third place award in the same category for her column “Ringside Seat’s 2015: Fighter of the Year: Gennady Glolovkin” published January 1, 2016.

In response to her impressive showing at the competitive annual awards event, Falkenthal said:

“Boxing is a sport full of larger than life personalities and every boxer’s life is a fight for greatness. My goal is to write for the general reader who enjoys a good story as well as boxing enthusiasts like me. This award tells me I’m hitting this goal.”

The columns Falkenthal submitted for the competition included:

‘Gonzalez fights for bigger stage, bigger checks Saturday against Arroyo,’ published April 22, 2016

‘Joe Smith Jr. scores Upset of the Year shocker over Fonfara,‘ published June 19, 2016

‘Lomachenko impresses, makes Walters say ‘no mas’ Saturday,’ published November 27, 2016
