WASHINGTON, September 8, 2014 – Baltimore Ravens Running Back Ray Rice lost his contract with the Baltimore Ravens after video of Rice violently punching his then girlfriend, now wife, and knocking her unconscious surfaced.
The NFL, which initially suspended Rice for two games after the incident, backtracked after the video surfaced. Observers say the NFL saw the video before handing down the initial suspension, which the NFL denies.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodall declares he did not see the video before handing down the two game suspension.
The original video showed Rice in the elevator with his girlfriend and then a frame of his girlfriend on the ground. However, that apparently was not enough to convince the NFL of the severity of the assault by Rice.
The new video, combined with the public outcry over the incident, did convince Goodall and the Ravens.
Days to follow will surely reveal how this investigation was conducted and how Ray Rice was not charged with assault and battery for this attack.
