When Democrats hold a debate that is not a debate

Written By | Nov 9, 2015

TALLAHASSEE, November 9, 2015 — Democrats actually believe they held a debate on MSNBC when they invited the democrat nominees for a conversation with Rachel Maddow.

The American public can be forgiven for not knowing that an event deliberately meant to be hidden from public view was hidden from public view. For those who missed the debate, Democrats thank you and express their relief.

Republicans held an actual debate recently. They will hold another one in a few days.

The CNBC GOP debate featured hostile moderators who received a healthy amount of scorn for their performance. The first GOP debate held by Fox News struck the appropriate balance of tough but fair questions by Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier and Chris Wallace.

The candidates in the GOP debates also engaged in sharp exchanges due to differences in philosophy.

Democrats do not believe in these types of forums. For a debate to occur, somebody on the stage has to disagree with somebody else. Those disagreements have to be public.

CNBC moderators cross the line into hostility during GOP Debate

Democrat National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is a member of Hillary Clinton’s Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Wasserman-Schultz knows that Clinton is a flawed candidate who rises in the polls the less voters see and hear from her and vice versa. Wasserman-Schultz made sure that there were as few opportunities as possible for Clinton to be challenged. Even some liberals expressed ire that only four Democrat debates were being held before the February 1 Iowa Caucus.

To even include the most recent gathering as a debate is laughable.

The friendly conversation was hosted by MSNBC, a channel that virtually nobody watches. The moderator was Rachel Maddow, who is not and has never been a news journalist. She has an opinion show. Leftists are good, conservatives are evil, and the Koch Brothers are responsible for everything bad in life from climate change to Restless Leg Syndrome.

In a real debate, the candidates take the stage at the same time. They confront each other. The MSNBC forum was three liberal infomercials in consecutive order. Visiting Oprah Winfrey’s couch can make for interesting girl gossip, but it is not the forum for hard news. Maddow did her feeble best to try and prove that she was anything other than a prop. Democrats could say they had a debate and check off another box.

The candidates were not asked about what kind of tree they would be if they were Al Gore, but they were also not asked to mention the words radical Islam.

Wasserman-Schultz also made sure that the debate was held on a Friday night. This drastically reduced the television audience. Many devout Muslims were in their Mosques. Plenty of Jews were in their synagogues. Jews were also forbidden from watching the debate due to Sabbath rules prohibiting the use of electricity. Debates are supposed to be a forum to reach as many voters as possible. The purpose of the MSNBC event was the exact opposite.

Each candidate sat separately at a table with Maddow. First up was former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. Sandwiched in the middle was Larry David’s alter ego, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Bringing up the rear was former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Try finding transcripts of the debate. 48 hours after the event, Google searches kept the event hidden. Maddox did interview Clinton a couple weeks earlier on the day after her Benghazi testimony. Maddox was enthralled to know what Clinton did after her testimony. She ate Indian food.

Sanders made a remark about his underwear while trying to convince voters he was anything other than a grumpy old man. O’Malley was asked why his poll numbers were low rather than why he destroyed the state he governed so badly that a Republican succeeded him.

Clinton could have been asked a number of substantive questions. Maddox asked not one of them.

Questions Hillary Clinton still has not had to answer

Instead Clinton was asked which Republican she would choose as her vice presidential candidate if she had to pick one. This mind-numbingly stupid question is for those who like to ask hypothetical questions with no basis in reality. It’s like asking the Iranian mullahs which Jewish person they would support as their next leader. Those who see the comparison as an exaggeration should remember that Clinton proudly considers Republicans to be her enemies. She could have been asked about that but was not.

Sanders believes America has a voting rights crisis. Republicans are trying to keep illegal immigrants, Syrian refugees, felons and deceased people from voting. Democrats consider this racist.

Leftists considered the forum a success because they said so. Those opinions were formed before the event took place. If Steve Martin can film the weather in advance like he did in L.A. Story, then Democrats can film a South Carolina debate story any way they please.

It was one thing for Senator Barack Obama to run for president as a blank slate. After eight years of Republican rule in the White House, he was able to be a default option. 2016 Democrats are trying to run for president to fix a country they have been controlling for the last seven years. They are claiming that they want to cure societal ills, hoping voters are totally oblivious to who is exacerbating those ills.

Democrats are the establishment. They are the government. Much of what has gone wrong has happened under their watch. Their only hope in 2016 is to cobble together the same hard left coalition that won in 2012. This means firing up their base at the expense of the many moderate voters who comprise Normal America.

It is for this reason that Democrats did everything possible to  ensure that only their most committed loyalists saw Maddow’s Democrat non-debate.

The two remaining Democrat gatherings before the Iowa Caucus that are labeled as debates both take place on Saturday nights. Then the Democrats have a Sunday debate that will compete directly with the National Football League conference title games.

Democrats are perfectly willing to discuss ideas. The only conditions are that these discussions be held in the dead of night. More people saw the anti-Muslim You-Tube video that was blamed on Benghazi than these Democrat debates.

That is exactly how Democrats want it. To win the White House and silence Republicans, Democrats have to silence themselves and make sure nobody knows what they believe until after the 2016 election.
