Trump’s ongoing fight against socialists foreign and domestic

WASHINGTON. President Trump’s trade war with China, coupled with pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong, highlights America’s contradictory and dangerous relationship with the totalitarian giant. China’s top-down economy is as antithetical to innovative capitalism as its top-down totalitarian system is to the individual’s natural yearning for freedom.

China’s People’s Liberation Army, which awaits orders from Beijing to crush Hong Kong’s demonstrators, has a formidable cyber division that focuses much of its energies hacking into the computer systems of American corporations. It passes this purloined intellectual property to its favored corporate oligarchs.

And China’s reach into America’s entertainment industry forces Hollywood to self-censor its content lest communist authorities block their feature films from its market.

Last week, Apple Inc. stock lost $44 billion in market value after President Trump said he might mandate American companies to move their manufacturing facilities outside China. According to Bloomberg, it would take Apple three years to move just 20 percent of its popular iPhone production elsewhere.

Labor Day, Democrats, and real Socialists

In the meantime, China builds artificial islands in the South China Sea to serve as aircraft carriers and platforms to launch missiles at vessels sailing through one of the world’s busiest trade routes.

Islands of contention

And with the US being China’s largest trading partner, its growing ability to project military power is paid for with currency bearing the face of George Washington and other American presidents. But China’s link to the US dollar puts the dictatorship at a considerable disadvantage.

Trump’s cold trade war

Since Trump’s trade war began, China’s yuan decreased in value by 5 percent, forcing her to use up her Euro reserves, whose value is also declining. And while the stock market has swung wildly of late, the Volatility Index – also known as the “Fear Index” – is lower under Trump than his predecessor.

Like it or not, the US is in a new Cold War with China. And President Trump has been the only Western leader to recognize the threat. And he is quite willing to risk his re-election prospects (RECESSION!!!!!) by using the might of an agile and robust American economy as a weapon against a closed and stilted economic system heavily reliant on theft.

The idiocy of socialism at home

Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Just in passing, Democratic Party darling and presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, is just as captivated by communist China as he once was of the Soviet Union – his honeymoon destination of choice. He recently told The Hill we should put aside China’s atrocities committed in the name of cockeyed utopianism and look on the bright side of his favorite hobbyhorse – confiscatory socialism.

“But what we have to say about China in fairness to China and its leadership is – if I’m not mistaken – they have made more progress in addressing extreme poverty than any country in the history of civilization, so they’ve done a lot of things for their people,” said Sanders.

Bernie Sanders and the real life lessons of Socialism

That “progress” came at a tremendous cost. According to the Washington Post:

“While most scholars are reluctant to estimate a total number of ‘unnatural deaths’ in China under Mao [Zedong], evidence shows he was in some way responsible for at least 40 million deaths and perhaps 80 million more. This includes deaths he was directly responsible for and deaths resulting from disastrous policies he refused to change.”

But twice as many died under Mao’s fanciful socialist policies. Something ignorant millennials enamored of socialism should keep in mind while salivating like Pavlovian dogs over Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s totalitarian Green New  Deal or crazy Uncle Bernie’s Medicare for all.

Lucky for America, President Trump is as anxious to fight our goofy brand of domestic utopians as he is China’s thieving socialist oligarchs.
