CHARLOTTE, NC. At some point you really have to wonder when, and if, liberals and their willing media allies are ever going to get the message the American people are sending. That’s particularly true when it comes to what average working Americans are trying to tell them about President Trump.
For two years, the never-Trump brigade has been on the march to oust the president, primarily because they don’t like him. In fact, in many cases it’s more like outright hatred than dislike. But what is so ironic about efforts to return to Obama-world is this. The enthusiastic frenzy of Trump supporters is not about President Trump himself. It is about his pro-American policies and the return to American values. Both have become incredibly blurred in recent presidential administrations.
Trump is like E.F. Hutton
The Trump phenomenon In point of fact, the current political situation reminds those of us of a certain age of that old E.F. Hutton brokerage commercial on TV. At the conclusion of the commercial, a learned voice informs us,
“When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen.”
Here’s one of those old commercial clips, via YouTube, circa 1978:
President Trump is just like the concluding catch-phrase in those famous old E.F. Hutton commercials. When President Trump speaks, his supporters listen. Unfortunately, members of today’s so-called news media do not.
Media, #NeverTrumpers are incredibly blind to reality.
So the question then becomes: “How can the media and Trump’s opponents be so blind?”
In general, Americans tend to be a live-and-let-live people. They will generally do anything to avoid confronting an issue head on. Trump is different. While others go around their elbows to get to their feet, he focuses like a laser on the issues at hand. He attacks a situation directly from the ground up. In the end, there is far less wheel spinning and considerably more in the way of results.
“Just do it.” It’s not just for Nike anymore.
Debates may arise as to whether the outcome is what we want. But at least most of the time, there is a definitive answer to burning political questions and issues. And it’s best we try to work things out rather than sitting around wringing our hands, talking about what we should do instead of just doing it.
It really is that simple.
Love Trump or hate him, he is getting things done. Meanwhile, his opposition grouses and complains with the same old tired excuses and tactics. They insist on going after the man rather than his policies.
Jeh Johnson steps up to reality: A cautionary tale
Case in point: During the final months of the Obama presidency, former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson sent a memo to law enforcement agencies expressing concern over Special Interest Aliens (SIA) crossing our border en masse.
The memo identified individuals from 35 countries that “have shown a tendency to promote, produce, or protect terrorist organizations.” In other words, citizens of Middle Eastern, African and Asian countries that have a strong terrorist presence.
Johnson’s directive was intended to begin establishing policies and means of bringing down the SIA movement into this country. It was a forward-looking effort to “head’em off at the pass,” so to speak.
Johnson’s desired results never materialized (typical: all talk, no action). But the point is that if a person as liberal as Jeh Johnson found it necessary to issue a warning about rapidly increasing SIA activity, we should all be wary about the potential for future problems.
Twin “caravans” approach the U.S. on Election 2018 Eve
Now we have not one but apparently two “caravans” on the move in massive numbers. Is it any coincidence that this massing of potential illegals is occurring on Election 2018 Eve? Or that the media is massively and positively covering what could quickly become a tragic situation?
The primary point of origin for this caravan(s) thus far appears to be the chaotic central American country of Honduras. But Guatemala and El Salvador are also involved. This justifiably raises concerns about infiltration by Middle Eastern terror groups such as Hezbollah and the Iran-based Quds Force. Both have considerably increased in number in Latin America and Mexico during the last ten years.
Daniel Horowitz lays out the central danger in an article in Conservative Review .
“Hezbollah’s growing involvement in the global cocaine trade over the past decade has resulted in the formation of alliances with Colombian and Mexican drug trafficking cartels, the most sophisticated transnational organized crime syndicates law enforcement has ever faced.”
The potential threat of terrorist and gang infiltration
President Trump clearly recognizes the situation and its potential to cause mayhem in the United States. He is attempting to deal with it, even though current U.S. laws and regulations allow him limited options. On the other hand, lazy, leftist, U.S. journalists refuse to bother with truly understanding the underlying issue. They choose instead to regurgitate the “sexy” hot-button anti-Trump story of the moment. In so doing, they demonstrate little or no comprehension of what is actually happening in the world.
Consequently, reporters react with shock when Trump mentions his concerns about Middle Eastern SIAs crossing our borders. Rather than investigating the problem, they prefer to continue their relentless diatribe against the President they despise. Heaven forbid they try to determine the realities of this true and disturbing story.
More media manipulation and spinning of reality
Is it any wonder that when Barack Obama spoke in Las Vegas recently, the press opted to publish photos of the event from angles that suggested massive crowds were hanging on every word uttered by the former president. In truth, the actual attendance was pitifully small. There were so many empty seats that event planners erected partitions to make the space look smaller and the crowd look fuller. Optics vs. reality.
Elsewhere in Las Vegas, Trump was simultaneously speaking in his free-wheeling off-the-cuff-loose-cannon style to a massive, legitimate throng of people. Many had camped out for hours to hear the presidential address. The overflow crowd the venue could not accommodate gathered outside and viewed the event on giant screens.
Due to this predictible media malfeasance, Obama may have scored a coup with the press. But it was Donald Trump, or at least his policies, that once again resonated with the American people.
Why do liberals and leftists absolutely refuse to learn?
Much like the recently-concluded Brett Kavanaugh fiasco, what is so profoundly confounding here returns to our original point. Why don’t liberals recognize that their playbook has become an anachronism? Why can’t they see that their stale propaganda tactics have gone the way of buggy whips and eight-track tapes? Are we dealing with politics or ideology here? Or are today’s liberals and leftists promoting the faith-based dogmas of the long-discredited Marxist religion.
These questions are worth probing. But even as we try to do so, Democrats and their growing number of left-wing ideologues continue to ignore present realities while trying to undermine them. Instead, adhering to Alinsky’s rules, they attack an individual they’ve chosen to hate rather than confront the ideas he brings to the table. After all, it’s far easier to attack and smear an individual than it is to debate that individual or his ideas.
Americans have learned how the Washington game is played. But have enough of them learned?
By and large, the American people have, at long last, learned how Washington’s games are really played. They have finally noticed that Democrats continue to use tired old dirty tricks that are no longer viable in a contemporary world, save for the lowest of the low-information voters.
In the end, as distasteful as those Democrat strategies may be to many, let that fading party continue to remain intellectually frozen in time. Let them play by rules that are no longer valid. As in their shameful smearing of now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Their house of cards will eventually collapse, whether it does so this year or in the near future. The major question facing us this November is this: Have enough American voters learned these truths?
Meanwhile President Trump and the GOP should stick to their guns and keep deploying the positive, pro-American policies that most real Americans voted for in 2016. And let them do so despite any disapproval they may have of the man’s personality. Trump is, after all, the man who now makes the decisions that others in his office have evaded for decades. Hopefully, he has not arrived too late.
