LOS ANGELES, March 5, 2015—The latest Clinton email scandal is a nothing burger, hold the fries.
Progressives and conservatives alike are chomping at the bit over the latest bit of news that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used a private email address and private server, rather than a “state.gov” address to conduct government business.
Pundits question whether Hillary broke the law, while others fuss about the propriety (or even intelligence) of her actions.
The U.S. Department of State and Clinton spokespeople are pooh-poohing the concerns, and—no surprise here—invoking the Bush administration and former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s use of private email as proof that she did nothing unusual or wrong.
All a big fat whatever?
I see this as a smokescreen from the real scandals that are dogging the Clintons’—and therefore Hillary’s—heels. The peeling away of the veneer of graft may well uncover the corruption rot that will derail Hillary’s 2016 presidential run.
What is telling is how the media is slathering over this, “tsk tsking” over emails, when this is the least of the problems plaguing this political dynasty.
There is much stink surrounding The Clinton Foundation, former President Bill Clinton’s nonprofit organization founded in 2001. The “goal” of the foundation is to bring people together using money to find creative solutions to global challenges. Fancy words for throwing money at cultural and generational issues—issues that have had much money thrown at them already — in order to look philanthropic and worldly.
Since its founding, the foundation has raised nearly $2 billion, proof that charisma, crony capitalism and corruption will take you very far.
In 2005 the foundation established the Clinton Global Initiative in order to “convene global leaders to create and implement innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.” Challenges like poverty in Africa (good luck), and global warming (of course).
After Hillary resigned as secretary of state in 2013, she joined the foundation, post haste.
Supposedly the Clinton Foundation was under a ban in 2009, when Hillary began her role as Secretary of State. The ban stated that the foundation would not accept foreign donations.
Once Hillary resigned, of course, the foreign money started pouring in. However, the Washington Post reported on Feb. 25 that the Clinton Foundation accepted millions of dollars in foreign government donations while Hillary was serving in the State Department. Due to the many exemptions included in the so-called ban, most of those donations were technically allowed.
However, at least one of those donations, $500,000 from the Algerian government, not only violated the ban, but was not reported to the State Department’s ethics office.
The Clinton Dynasty’s penchant for taking questionable foreign money is legend, but over the years there have been enough ways the Clintons could avoid any in-depth scrutiny: crying about right-wing conspiracies, shredding files, and colleagues “in the know” mysteriously dying among them. And if the sleepy news media actually did investigate, the Clintons would always have a convenient fall guy or gal to take the heat and the blame.
Strangely, it appears their list of allies is running out.
“The Clinton Foundation was on the defensive Wednesday after disclosing that it had accepted millions of dollars from several foreign governments while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, including one donation that violated the foundation’s ethics agreement with the Obama administration.”
Even KCCI out of Des Moines (that’s Iowa) reported,
“A CNN review of public event listings for the Clinton Global Initiative’s Annual Meeting found partnerships with at least six banks that were under investigation, involved in litigation or had been fined by government agencies and regulators at the time of the meeting.
“In every case, the bank in question was listed as a sponsor of the event even after the investigations were widely reported in the media.
“The Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative are, ostensibly, both attractive organizations to provide a foundation for the Clintons to build their legacy, and for Hillary Clinton to make a presidential campaign pitch.”
If further investigation shows wrongdoing on the part of the Clinton Foundation, it looks like both the legacy and the presidential pitch may be going up in flames. A smart person would think that the horror and incompetence of the Benghazi embassy should have already done this, but I digress.
The smelliest stench on the so-called legacy has to be President Bill Clinton’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted pedophile. Just shy of a year ago, the UK Daily Mail reported that Bill Clinton was identified in a lawsuit against Epstein.
Epstein had “regular” orgies at his Caribbean compound that involved underage girls, and apparently former President Clinton visited this compound multiple times between 2002 and 2005:
“Flight logs pinpoint Clinton’s trips on Epstein’s jet between the years 2002 and 2005, while he was working on his philanthropic post-presidential career and while his wife Hillary was a senator for their adopted state of New York.”
Not surprisingly, this very pungent business is something the U.S. media is refusing to touch, just like Benghazi. They would rather waste bytes and copy on emails and servers. Had they spilled as much ink over Lois Lerner and her emails, she would be in jail by now.
Their desire to derail the Clinton Dynasty appears to be singularly focused on Hillary, and the focus is not even taking into account her failures as secretary of state. The myopia of the U.S. media is interesting, to say the least.
We all know that despite the “Ready for Hillary” campaigns and the political buzz, Hillary’s candidacy and especially her coronation on the 2016 Democrat ticket is no done deal. That was supposed to happen in 2008, when a little-known senator from Illinois who voted “present” for most his career put an end to that.
Now that we have Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and even Calif. Attorney General Kamala Harris waiting in the wings, a Hillary Clinton presidency is quickly losing its luster.
