Ted Cruz destroys media hacks in CNBC Republican debate
WASHINGTON, Oct. 28, 2015 – In a stunning display of political integrity, 2016 Republican presidential candidate and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, let the CNBC TV gameshow hosts “moderating” tonight’s GOP debate have it with both barrels.
Declaring that “this is not a cage match,” Cruz blasted away at CNBC’s liberal questioners, who routinely goad Republican candidates to either attack each other or answer questions so simplistic and trivial that even the largely brain-dead panel hosting “The View” would be embarrassed to ask them.
“The questions that have been asked so far in this debate illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media,” Cruz declared, drawing cheers and applause from the audience. But he was just warming up and refused to allow CNBC’s moderators–Carl Quintanilla, Becky Quick and John Harwood–intrude on his time.
“And nobody watching at home believes that any of the moderators have any intention of voting in a Republican primary,” Cruz said, stating something that’s become blatantly obvious at this point to all but the most obtuse of voters.
Instead, he demanded, “How about asking questions of substance?” as the live audience applauded and cheered its approval again and again.
Here’s a short excerpt of Cruz’ dramatic and inspired response:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and even Donald Trump got in a few good shots at the media Wednesday evening as well. One of Rubio’s observations proved particularly effective, in light of the CNBC panel’s reflexive hostility toward his party. When queried on the matter of PACs, Rubio shot back:
“The Democrats have the ultimate super PAC. They’re called the mainstream media.”
Along with Rubio’s already well demonstrated debating skills, Cruz’take-no-prisoners fusillade was not only a high point of tonight’s Republican debate. It was clearly the best and most effective public challenge yet to a discredited media, whose cynical debate moderators no longer even bother to camouflage their intensely pro-Democrat partisanship.
It all makes one wonder why the Republican establishment continues to permit the MSM to host any purely Republican debates at all.
