SOUTH FLORIDA, January 28, 2014—Any columnist who predicts what a president will say before the State of the Union address will be writing a column with a very short shelf life. In other words, the column will very quickly have almost as little relevance and time value as the 2014 SOTU itself.
The governance phase of the Obama presidency has all but ended. In several weeks President Obama will spend every waking moment campaigning for the 2014 elections. The day after that election ends, he will begin campaigning for 2016. The man promising a year of action in a lifetime of inaction knows he is only weeks if not days away from being paralyzed politically.
His 2014 speech can be summed up in three words: “Blah, blah, blah.” The reason for this is because he has never broken free of his professorial career where he lectures and the rest of listen in a dumbfounded state. He will talk, because he loves the sound of his own voice. He will not listen, because that is just not what he does. While his supporters will insist he deserves the benefit of the doubt, the last five years provide an accurate prologue.
In late 2008, Americans were desperate for jobs. Obama focused on fundamentally transforming America into a European-style social democracy.
In 2009, Americans were desperate for jobs. Obama focused on remaking the healthcare system badly.
In 2010, Americans were desperate for jobs. Obama focused on green energy projects that failed.
In 2011, Americans were desperate for jobs. Obama focused on his reelection campaign. This involved coming up with a distraction to focus on in 2012.
In 2012, Americans were desperate for jobs. Obama focused on the mythical war on women.
In 2013, Americans were desperate for jobs. Obama focused on absolutely nothing. He was busy defending himself and his administration from scandals. He was waging war on conservative American citizens while making peace with Iranian mullahs. Benghazi, IRS abuses, NSA spying, EPA corruption and rigging the census were all dismissed as “phony scandals.”
In 2014, Americans are desperate for jobs.
In 2014, Obama plans to focus on giving illegal immigrants amnesty and welfare benefits to break the GOP and gain a new generation of liberal voters dependent on government.
In 2014, Obama plans to invest in education by destroying the current system as he did with healthcare in the name of progress.
In 2014, Obama plans to repeatedly increase the debt ceiling and rack up more debt while claiming that he favors debt reduction in a smarter and more responsible way.
In 2014, Obama plans to focus on income inequality despite recent polls showing that only 12% of Americans see it as a priority. He will do this while living and spending lavishly on himself using taxpayer funds.
In 2014, Obama plans to keep demonizing anybody who disagrees with him while using his powers to inflict pain on these people. Anybody criticizing him from Dinesh D’Souza to Friends of Abe will be targeted by his government.
In 2014, shovel-ready jobs will still not be shovel ready. Inflation will remain under control only because food and fuel prices have been removed from the calculation. Unemployment will drop only because more Americans will give up looking for work and seek government assistance.
In 2014, the only people doing well will be in the Obama-worship industry. They will continue insisting he saved America from the next Great depression while being unable to say what he actually did other than a failed stimulus project. They will then say the job is too big for one man, while promoting an equally unqualified woman whose main skill involves helping Obama get innocent Americans killed and covering up the truth.
There is nothing left for Obama to say, but the man who keeps talking will continue to do so. He will keep trying to raise taxes, increase regulations, and complain that the Constitution prevents him from ruling with an iron fist. He will lash out at people, turning his presidency into one giant, long temper-tantrum devoid of any dignity or class.
The only good news is that in three years he will be out of all of our lives. He will go away kicking and screaming, but go away he will.
Until then, it is time for the fifth of eight installments of a man who speaks endlessly without doing anything that truly benefits anyone, anywhere.
The speech will be boring, insipid, insufferable, pompous, self-righteous, smarmy and quickly forgotten. As Obama will remind us in his next speech the day after this one, the failure of his speech will be all President George W. Bush’s fault.
To sum up Obama’s speech is to channel Hillary Clinton.
What difference at this point does it make?
