NATIONAL HARBOR, MD: To those of a certain age and experience, it is a trial that hardly needs to happen. However, as we come upon thirty years since of the fall of the Berlin Wall, there’s at best a fading memory of this event. At worse, ignorance, especially among the Millennial generation.
This newest generation, with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leading the pack, fails to internalize just how bad socialism is. It is essential, therefore that the young audience at CPAC recognizes the failures of the socialist way of life.
The specific call to put socialism on trial came yesterday afternoon from economic advisor Larry Kudlow. Put socialism on trial, he says. It needs to be debated, indicted and convicted. The Green New Deal, Kudlow says, would destroy the economy. It is central planning on a grand scale.
The old Soviet Union didn’t work; Venezuela again proves it doesn’t work. The problem is, the media is attempting to hide it.
According to the Media Research Council, the word “socialism” or “socialist” was left out of 93 percent (44 out of 47 reports) about Venezuela. (Networks ignore reason for crisis in Venezuela – 93% of reports don’t mention “socialism”). These include stories on ABC, CBS, and NBC evening news reports on Venezuela between Feb. 1, 2018, and Feb. 21, 2019.
All three of the stories that acknowledged socialism aired on NBC Nightly News.
Even in Vice President Pence’s remarks, he referred to the Venezuelan form of government as being a dictatorship, with Nicholas Maduro being a dictator. What he didn’t say was that Hugo Chavez instituted socialism in Venezuela and after his death—as always eventually happens—a dictator takes over.
From a Socialist Country to Dictatorship – its the way it goes
In the Soviet Union, it was the “dictatorship of the proletariat” that was the dictatorship of the Communist Party and its leader, starting with Josef Stalin. Nevertheless, in Cuba, it began as a socialist military dictatorship under Fidel Castro—which it still is.
Many other examples can be seen, cumulatively resulting in over 100 million people killed by their governments in the 20th century.
Yesterday RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel set up the coming election as a stark choice between capitalism, America as we know it, and socialism.
Other speakers have reinforced the theme. Several have quoted the president’s pledge that “America will never be a socialist country.”
It has been consistent enough that it will doubtless become a major campaign theme in 2020.
VP Pence said that the moment that America becomes a socialist country, America ceases to be America.
If we lay out a choice between freedom and socialism, he continued, Americans will choose freedom every time.
The task given to CPAC attendees is to ensure that Americans understand that’s the choice.
