HOUSTON, October 6, 2014 — In a stunning decision, the United States Supreme Court allowed for a tax on gays. For those who read the news to friends and loved ones, enunciation is vital. The SCOTUS allowed “a tax,” not “attacks” on gays.
Technically the High Court declined to hear an appeal from five states wishing to maintain a ban on gay marriage. This will allow an increase in gay marriages and most likely lead to an increase in gay couples getting divorced in the near future.
The only people licking their chops more than the trial lawyers over the SCOTUS ruling are the fine folks at the Internal Revenue Service. Aunt Helen and Aunt Sally will enjoy some lovely October weddings, but they will receive massive headaches when the bill to Uncle Sam comes due on April 15th, 2015. The marriage penalty that has been targeting heterosexual Americans will now be forced down the throats of married gays everywhere. Marriage equality means IRS equality.
The problem has now reached a head because the American left was trying to reconcile two contradictory ideas. On the one hand liberals badly wanted gays to be married. Some saw this as a matter of justice and fairness. Others just wanted a wedge issue to use against conservative Republicans. Yet on the other hand the American left has done everything possible to undermine the institution of marriage. This was due to the cynical aspiration that by wrecking marriages, the family unit would be replaced by big government. This brought the marriage penalty, an insidious tax meant to discourage individuals from matrimony through higher taxes.
It was one thing to harass straight people through oppressive taxes. The left needs gay Americans as part of their coalition of interest groups. Once gays have the freedom to marry, a powerful political tool is gone. Once gays marry, they will soon discover what straight people have known for some time. The right to tax truly is the right to destroy.
Being a conservative means that the government should get out of our lives in met situations. Many religious conservatives truly believe that homosexuality is a sin as described in the Holy Bible. Well punishing straight married people through extra taxes is vile.
As much as liberals hate being confronted with the truth, stuff only gets only gets done when liberal minorities complain. The million man bald white Republican march is not going to happen. When liberal blacks, women or gays are unhappy about anything, the media cares and forces the rest of us to care.
Now that gays are about to face a massive tax liability, the gay liberal community needs to do what it does best. It needs to complain loudly and proudly. The right to marry is not truly available if people cannot afford to marry because of financial hardship. Until the marriage penalty is removed, gay marriages will be restricted to wealthy gays, now referred to as gay one-percenters. Gay 99%ers will continue to have their rights violated. This is the very income inequality many liberals obsess over.
Gay couples must demand an end to the marriage penalty. This would benefit homosexual and heterosexual couples, and render gays heroes in the straight community. The government will not fear straight couples demanding justice, be they religious Christians or anti-tax advocates. When gay liberals are upset, change happens.
It would be a sweet irony indeed if the right of gay people to marry led to an increase in heterosexual marriages and the eventual elimination of an awful IRS disincentive to marriage.
The IRS must end the marriage penalty now. Do it for gays and lesbians in the name of true equality. Over-taxing gays is intolerable, and it must stop now.
