Rockville High School rape: Blaming the victim, not the rapist

Maryland lawmakers putting forth a bill declaring a sanctuary state is just one more assault on high school rape victim

WASHINGTON, March 25, 2017 — Not until Kate Steinle was shot by an illegal alien while standing next to her father on a San Francisco pier did the country wake up to the fact that the crimes committed by “undocumented immigrants” are not victimless.  Proving that point, following is just a small representation of the victims of the crimes committed by illegal aliens from Mexico, Central and South America:

  • Denny McCann was dragged to his death by an illegal immigrant who was driving drunk, despite being previously arrested for DUI, yet not deported.
  • Sgt. Brandon Mendoza was killed by an illegal immigrant high on methamphetamines and with a BAC three times the Colorado limit.
  • Grant Ronnebeck was 21 years old when shot by an illegal immigrant from Mexico, an man who had faced deportation but whose case was pending when he killed Ronnebeck during a convenience store robbery.
  • Billy Wayne and Natalee Jean Funderburgh, a couple killed by a drunk driving illegal immigrant.
  • Drew Rosenberg, a second-year law student killed by an unlicensed driver from Honduras who was in the U.S. illegally, but who had temporary protective status. The killer only served 43 days. Rosenberg’s family issued enough pressure and he was finally deported.
  • Felica Ruiz, murdered at the age of 18 by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela brought to the U.S. as a child. She was killed because she would not join a gang.
  • An illegal immigrant is in jail in Michigan after strangling his girlfriend. The murderer was deported to Mexico in 2004, and again in 2005. He was in police custody just prior to the murder, arrested on a DUI charge.
  • A 40-year-old illegal immigrant was sentenced to four life terms for the rape and sodomy of two children in Alabama.
  • A 13-year-old girl in Burke Country, North Carolina was raped by an illegal immigrant who is scheduled for deportation following the conclusion of his prison sentence.
  • Joshua Wilkerson, 18 years of age, was beaten, strangled, tortured, doused with gasoline and set on fire by a 21-year-old illegal immigrant classmate who came to the U.S. from Belize as a child. The killer admitted beating Wilkerson to death with a wooden rod. At the time of his arrest, he did not have legal status in this country, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
  • In June, 2016, eleven illegal alien members of the Salvadoran MS-13 gang, all from Maryland, were convicted of a series of crimes including murder and conspiracy in a racketeering enterprise.
  • This month, three men, said to have ties with the MS13 gang , were indicted by a federal grand jury. The men posed as a female on social media, luring a New Jersey native to Maryland in order to kill him. The victim’s remains were found in a shallow grave in Gaithersburge, north of Rockville, eliciting this statement from Homeland Security in Baltimore, Md.:

“This indictment alleges a horrifically planned effort to lure a victim across multiple states into Maryland with the sole purpose of kidnapping and inflicting grotesque bodily harm,” said Andre R. Watson, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations Baltimore, in a news release. “HSI will continue to use its wide jurisdictional authorities and collaborate with state and local law enforcement to ensure that we shield Maryland-area communities from this type of violent criminal activity.”

Most recently, a 14-year-old-girl was allegedly horrifically raped and assaulted during the school day at Rockville High School. Not only has the girl suffered a devastating assault, she is being further assaulted by the Secretary of Schools and the defense attorneys for the men accused of the crime. One of them, 18-year-old Henry E. Sanchez-Milian, is an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who has a pending immigration case.

Each suspect is charged with one count of first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sex offense.

Of the case, Sanchez-Milian’s attorney Andrew Jezic says, “There has been a rush to judgment.” The significant media attention given to the case, he added, has led to his client being caught up in national political debates.

“I think that he is being used as an unjust scapegoat by the opponents of recent immigration practices.”

On Fox News, Jezic said that he felt the hysteria over this crime was not because of its brutality, but the hate for Latinos fomented by President Trump.

Jezic also blames ICE. He says that Sanchez-Milian unlawfully entered the country in August and was ordered to appear before an immigration judge at a hearing that was never scheduled.

Jezic rejects any conclusions about the alleged rape because of his client’s immigration status and, instead, directed criticism of his own at ICE.
“ICE could have thrown this young man out of the country,” said Jezic. “ICE had their hands on him for three or four weeks. ICE chose to let him go without even a hearing. ICE simply made the discretionary decision to let him go into the hands of his father,” he said.

“The young man says he’s innocent and we’re going to plead 100 percent innocent, 100 percent not guilty,” Jezic said.

Jezic, as reported on Fox5, says that the encounter was pre-planned and consensual.

“There is evidence that will come out later I believe that this was a planned encounter with this young lady and at least one of these gentlemen,” Jezic explained

While everyone deserves a competent defense, these men seem to be teetering around the idea that the victim was somehow responsible for the crime, or “victim shaming.”

It is not the fault of the illegal alien who committed the crime, say Rockville’s liberals this week. It is the victim’s fault; it is the President’s fault.

Not all involved in the investigation agree. “This was a brutal attack,” Montgomery Police Chief Tom Manger said Wednesday. “I am confident that we have a strong case.”

At a meeting of the Rockville High PTA last Monday, Secretary of Schools Jack Smith said:

“One of the things that has complicated this circumstance, and I will go ahead and address is at is has been in all your minds, is you do not have the details about what happened before what happened in the bathroom and Ms. Benson told you that there are cameras in the school, and we cannot tell you those details, but that is a question I first had when I was told of the event.”  (54:35 on below video tape)

The actions of the girl before the rape—which Smith, Benson and the school administrators all went out of their way to call the “event” or “unfortunate incident”—never crossed the minds of those around me at the meeting. Rather, all were aghast at Smith’s apparent attempt to blame the victim.

Rockville High School and MCPS evade the rape for the ‘event’

The leftist government of Maryland has allowed more than 300,000 illegal immigrants into the state, a number that has crept up since 2005, when then Country Executive Doug Duncan opened the state’s doors to illegal immigrants, including the notorious MS13 Gang.

At the time, Duncan said it was about opportunity; our unfortunate neighbors to the South just needed opportunity. In far too many instances, it has been the opportunity to bring their predatory lifestyle to America.

Last week, the Maryland legislature passed a bill to Governor Larry Hogan’s (R) desk to mark Maryland as a Sanctuary State, making it difficult for police and state authorities to fall in line and cooperate with DHS and ICE officials, including upholding deportation warrants.

What these Maryland lawmakers are missing is that crime is never victimless and that too many of those illegals making their way to our state are not families looking for an opportunity to better themselves. They are predators.

And they are the ones that ICE and DHS are being precluded from deporting by leftist lawmakers who declare “sanctuary.” Protecting these predators creates fear among the citizenry, who in turn have a hard time accepting any illegal immigrants.

Additionally, creating a sanctuary city, county or state does not do anything to protect, bolster or enhance the status of illegal aliens who are busy living and working toward the American dream.

Sanctuary cities, counties and states only protect criminal illegal aliens who are here killing and raping Americans.

Maryland lawmakers are looking through their rose-colored glasses, seeing only the neighbors on my very multi-cultural street, walking from the bus stop to their homes after work, or waiting for the bus in the early hours to go to work.

These people have families; their children go to schools where they receive ESL classes, lunch and breakfast programs and community-based assistance. And one cannot argue that educating is not a better solution than not educating children to become working, taxpaying citizens.

Those lawmakers are not seeing the problems, like the family that for many years moved from one section-8 or HUD house to the next, whose gang-member teens routinely beat their non-English speaking parents and whose grade school child was a consistent problem in the school, bullying, beating and stealing from other children.

The left sees only half the picture, the hard working family of illegal immigrants, our Rockville neighbors. They ignore the ugly half of the picture, the felony criminals and the groups of men who loiter in our local parks, breaking their beer bottles, leaving garbage to be picked up, making the place unsafe for the neighborhood once dusk falls.

Those who want to make our cities into “sanctuaries” want to make them so for the men who leer at the kids at the local pool, and for the roving bands of teens who have tagged and destroyed our playground equipment and made our parks almost unusable. They aren’t sanctuaries for our children, or even for the children of illegal immigrants who try to fit in and succeed.

Our city wasn’t a sanctuary for the wandering alcoholics who were repeatedly struck on Viers Mill until lighting was enhanced, nor was it for the drivers whose lives were forever changed by the horror of striking another human being on the road.

Our lawmakers aren’t worried about the tent cities that pop up in our wooded areas, making them unsafe for families and children to play.

These aren’t anecdotes gathered from anonymous, published reports or hypothetical cases, but the first-hand account of a 30-year Maryland resident. Growing cultural and ethnic diversity are supposed to enrich our lives, but policies that ignore stress lines have allowed diversity to fracture our neighborhoods instead.

On a walk around the block I can encounter a dozen people, all speaking Spanish and unable to speak English. We can exchange pleasant hellos, but if they don’t learn the language, as my immigrant forefathers and mothers did, how will the ever be fully a part of America?

The Center for Immigration Studies reports on President Trump’s executive order (EO) to issue a report identifying state and local jurisdictions that have refused to honor immigration detainers. On the catch and release programs, the Center for Immigration Studies writes:

“The aliens released by the jails have an alarming array of serious criminal convictions and charges. The report lists one charge per individual, presumably the most serious, which may have been the instant charge of the most recent arrest, or may have been a prior charge or conviction. For the 206 cases, the most numerous charges and convictions were as follows:

51 – Assault, Aggravated Assault or Battery;
40 – Driving Under the Influence;
30 – Domestic Violence or Family;
19 – Robbery, Burglary or Auto Theft;
17 – Drugs (Selling and Possessing);
14 – Rape, Sex Assault or Sex Offenses (not including 5 Indecent Exposure).

In addition, one individual who had been charged with homicide was released by the Philadelphia Police Department.

Republican Governor Larry Hogan is demanding answers to the issue of illegal aliens and the presence of these men in a high school with suburban children.

“Why is an 18-year-old man in a class with 13 or 14-year-old girls? Why was his status not known to those folks? Why was he allowed to enter the country after he was picked up for illegally crossing the border—both of them? So there are a lot of questions,” Hogan told Fox 5. “My biggest concern is the Montgomery County School System and their lack of cooperation and the lack of information they’ve been providing. Not only have they refused to provide any information to us, but they’ve refused to provide information to the state Board of Education, which specifically requested more information.”

Hopefully, Governor Hogan will remember he has veto power and will act to restore sanity to Maryland.
