CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 18, 2014 — Amid the uproar over the Malaysian jetliner disappearance and Vladimir Putin’s adventures in Ukraine, the flames of Benghazi continue to flicker in the ashes of a perpetual global conflagration.
Though hardly a dominant story at the moment, Benghazi will likely reignite once the 2016 presidential campaign reaches maximum velocity. When it does, a story now appearing in Breitbart News will almost certainly be the focus of intense scrutiny.
During the 2008 run for the presidency, the question arose between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton as to who was the most qualified to handle a 3 a.m. phone call. Now we have the answer, and it is neither of them.
In what may be the most damning evidence to date of Hillary Clinton’s incompetence as Secretary of State in general and her handling of Benghazi in particular, writers Roger Stone and Sam Nunberg have laid out a serious case regarding the mismanagement by Clinton and the president over events in Libya that left four Americans dead in September of 2012.
In the Senate Select Committee’s Benghazi Report, it is now abundantly evident that the slaughter of the four diplomats could have been prevented. “Above all,” write Stone and Nunberg, “their deaths would not have occurred but for Obama and Clinton’s dangerous, Islamist-friendly, and unconstitutional military action against Qadhafi. Even worse, it is clear that Hillary put political “optics” above the security of American lives on the eve of a Presidential election. In that sense it’s a bigger cover-up than Watergate.”
Certainly Clinton and Obama supporters will counter the findings and spin the results, but in the end, the report merely confirmed what was already common knowledge, that both of them lied to the American people to provide cover for their own political ambitions.
The Breitbart story goes on to say that, “Clinton directly denied Amb. Stevens’s requests for greater security at the Benghazi Mission. Finding #2 of The Report states that ‘(t)he State Department should have increased its security posture more significantly in Benghazi based on the deteriorating security situation… including two incidents at the Temporary Mission Facility on April 6 and June 6, 2012.’ [p. 12] Both of these attacks included IEDs being directed by Islamists at the Mission.”
The article further states, “Clinton’s Under Secretary Patrick Kennedy signed off on an action memo “that green-lighted the Benghazi operation” with the caveat that the Mission be “exempted … from mandatory physical security standards” of a consulate.
“It strains credulity to believe that Hillary was not aware of the action memo, especially since Clinton misled the public on a ‘diplomatic victory’ in Libya as early as November 2011 when she ‘was quick to announce that the U.S. committed $40 million to help Libya secure and recover its weapons stockpiles.’”
Despite a year-long bipartisan investigation, the opposition will term the findings a witch-hunt designed to politically damage Clinton’s credibility when she finally does announce her intentions to run for president.
Witch-hunt or not, however, Clinton was her own worst enemy when she and Obama showed up at a memorial service for the fallen Americans and boldly blamed a YouTube video for the attack. Stone and Nunberg go on to report, “it is disconcerting that someone who believes she is capable of serving as Commander in Chief would lie directly to the father of the fallen Navy Seal Tyrone S. Woods on the cause of his son’s unnecessary death. Hillary approached Tyrone’s father Charles and assured him that the Obama administration was going to ‘arrest and prosecute’ the man that made the scapegoated YouTube video critical of Islam.”
The administration kept their promise about bringing the maker of the YouTube video to justice, but now, long after the Libyan incident is “old news” the real perpetrators of the attack remain at large.
For the moment, other stories in the news may be more intriguing, but the time will come when Benghazi will again dominate the 24/7 media cycle, and along with it will be the scandalous sleaze factors that have become part of the fabric of American life under the Clintons and Obama.
