#Throwback Thursday: The Congressman, Obama and Clinton

Written By | May 7, 2015

HOUSTON , May 6, 2014  — On  May 7, 2013, during one of the many House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearings on Benghazi, Rep. Trey Gowdy, his voice slightly shaken with emotion, had the following ringing words to say, and for their sakes, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama better have been listening:

“So if anyone wants to know what difference does it make, if anyone wants to ask what difference does it make (in reference to the now infamous Hillary Clinton quote) — it always matters whether you can trust your government — and to the families of the victims — we are going to find out what happened in Benghazi and I don’t give a damn whose career is impacted — we are going to find out what happened.”

Rep. Gowdy will now be able to completely fulfill that promise, and in the process, could destroy the political careers of one or both of the most powerful Democrats in America.

Think that is an exaggeration? In just the last 50 years Americans have impeached presidents for lying about sex, and for covering up a robbery. President Obama and Hillary Clinton’s ineptness and the cover-up that followed resulted in the lives of four Americans being taken in a situation that Gowdy just might prove was avoidable — all to save Obama’s and Clinton’s personal political ambitions.

A federal court forced the Obama administration to turn over emails that clearly indicate, contrary to 20 months of the White House’s claiming otherwise, that high-ranking White House officials directed other agencies to blame the Benghazi attacks on a YouTube video, rather than the Obama administration’s feckless foreign policy in order to help bolster Obama’s re-election chances in the 2012 election, which was less than 60 days after the attacks in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012.

In light of these new revelations, Speaker of the House John Boehner has appointed a select committee to investigate the causes, the inept response, and the arrogant and ridiculous cover up of the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 12, 2012, that caused the deaths of four Americans, including the first American ambassador to be killed on duty since 1979. Unfortunately for those who want to continue to stonewall and obscure the truth, particularly ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama, Boehner has appointed Rep. Trey Gowdy as the chairman of the committee.

Gowdy is a former federal prosecutor and a relentless cross-examiner who can get answers out of the most evasive Obama administration officials. Gowdy is unafraid and a truly principled conservative who could very possibly be the best and most succinct speaker in the entire House of Representatives. His appointment as chairman of this committee indicates that Boehner is not just using this committee as political window dressing to help shore up conservative support for his 2014 bid to retain his speakership; rather, the appointment of Gowdy shows the House GOP leadership is finally serious about finding out the truth for the American people and the families of those four brave Americans who died on that fateful night.

Rep. Gowdy has been pushing Boehner both publicly and behind closed doors for over 20 months now to appoint a select committee on Benghazi. Select Committees are a big deal because they have essentially unlimited jurisdiction in the areas they can investigate and the people they can subpoena. The Benghazi investigation to date has been so extremely fragmented because four different committees have been investigating and holding hearings on Benghazi and each committee has different members of Congress on them, as well as jurisdiction over different parts of the government. However, now Rep. Gowdy has essentially unlimited subpoena power to request records and depose individuals under oath and, unlike Boehner and the current committee chairmen, Gowdy won’t stand for the kind of stonewalling and noncompliance from this administration that has plagued the investigation so far.

Gowdy was on Fox News in late February and was asked what he thought of Susan Rice’s recent comment during an interview with David Gregory of NBC that she had no regrets about lying to the American people about the catalyst for the attack being an internet video.

Gowdy responded as follows: “There is no evidence to support that false narrative of a video. Not a scintilla of evidence. All of the evidence pointed exactly to what she claimed it wasn’t: a preplanned, coordinated attack. So she was fabulously wrong when she said it the first time,” he declared, “and stunningly arrogant in her refusal to express any regret for lying to our fellow citizens.” The host then asked Gowdy what he thought could be done to hold Rice accountable.

“I would love the chance to ask follow-up questions of Susan Rice, because David Gregory apparently did not avail himself of that opportunity. I get tougher questions in the Bojangles drive-thru than he asked her. There’s no regret about lying to your fellow citizens?” Gowdy continued. “No regret about the fact that in 18 months, not a single solitary person has been brought to justice? No regret for misleading the families and the loved ones of those four murdered Americans? I can certainly help her if she is struggling to come up with an area of regret.”

With Gowdy’s cross-jurisdictional power he can and will get answers to these questions from Susan Rice and more by having, for example, Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice and all of the people who contradict their lies regarding the reason for the attack and the outrageous cover-up,  all testifying at the same hearing on the same day. The public hearings will garner the most press coverage, but no committee can really gather the appropriate information when each congressmen only gets a five-minute period to question witnesses and the questioning is so incredibly disjointed.

A select committee will give Gowdy the additional authority of deposing key figures, including Hillary Clinton, for many hours under oath behind closed doors.

This is where the real truth will come to light and, very well could end Hillary Clinton’s political career and/or Barack Obama’s presidency.
