WASHINGTON, October 9, 2014 — Although more than 20 Secret Service agents were punished or fired following the 2012 prostitution scandal in Columbia, the Obama administration’s repeated denials that anyone from the White House was involved, is less than truthful. Apparently, they knew a young White House intern engaged a prostitute and decided to cover it up, at least until after the 2012 election, according to the Washington Post.
About a month ago, President Obama gave a nationally televised speech to address Americans’ concerns about the beheading of two journalists by ISIS. It was apparent that Americans wanted ISIS not just contained, but completely destroyed, to avoid any possible threat to the US.
The President said that he was reversing his apparent strategy of containment. He said he would use a campaign of air strikes to “degrade and destroy” ISIS. But instead of using thousands of airstrikes aimed at truly destroying the enemy, he has authorized only a couple of hundred airstrikes aimed at not-so-critical targets. He has insisted that none of the airstrikes endanger any civilians which meant the strikes were not very damaging to ISIS.
In fact, ISIS is still on the move. Obama has been less than truthful.
Obama said he would authorize air strikes not only in Iraq but also in Syria, where ISIS has their headquarters. But the limited airstrikes have not caused major harm to ISIS, as they continue to take over a number of critical Syrian cities.
The President was less than truthful with us.
Perhaps these two recent incidents would not be that critical if these represented the first instances of being less than truthful. But the President has displayed a continued pattern of deception for years.
First there was the fast and furious problem where Attorney General Eric Holder, who represented the Obama Administration, was less than truthful when he told Americans that he knew nothing about the operation until after one of the guns was used to kill an American border agent. Holder was held in contempt of Congress for his failure to provide documents related to this incident. Without full disclosure, we can only conclude that the Obama administration was less than truthful.
The IRS has become corrupt by using their power for political gain as they targeted those groups who opposed the President’s views. The corruption was evident when Lois Lerner plead the fifth amendment and refused to answer questions because those answer might incriminate her. Because she took that position, apparently there is more than just a smidgeon of corruption. The administration was being less than truthful when he said otherwise. Obama was further less than truthful when he assured Americans that he would get to the bottom of this.
When every Democrat in Congress voted to approve the Affordable Care Act, not one had fully read the bill. But the President assured members of his party, and more importantly the American people, that when the law is implemented, people will be able to keep their doctor if they liked their doctor, they could keep their policy if they liked their policy and that their premiums would decrease by about $2,500 per year. He now admits he was less than truthful when he said that.
When Obama was running for President in 2008 he assured the American people that he would end the divisiveness in Congress and bring the parties together in order to move the country forward. Instead he created more division in Congress. Unlike prior Presidents who went to Congress and sought the input from leaders of the opposing party in order to find compromise ( like President Reagan conferring with Tip O’Neill or President Clinton conferring with Newt Gingrich) Obama never visits Congress and almost never asks the opposing party leaders for input. His promise to unite the country has been less than truthful.
And then there is the Benghazi scandal. The President assured Americans that the attack was the result of a demonstration triggered by a video that few people had seen. We now know that he was being less than truthful when he said that. He assured us that those responsible would be brought to justice. Those claims are less than truthful since no one has been held responsible.
Democracy can only survive when there is honesty from elected officials and trust from the citizens that their leaders are being completely forthright. This current pattern of deception, that seems to be getting worse rather than better, is posing a real threat to the welfare of America.
