WASHINGTON, September 24, 2015 – Anyone who is interested in fully understanding what is going on in American politics has likely watched the unedited videos that vividly and accurately display the horrendous practices taking place at Planned Parenthood locations across the country.
The media have done their best to discredit the videos, more willing to accept that the whole thing is a massive conservative-led conspiracy than to consider for a moment that the blind and unwavering support of everything Planned Parenthood does might have been misguided.
Every single talking point that they have disseminated has been proven false. Women have nowhere to go for reproductive health without Planned Parenthood. False. What about all the mammograms that Planned Parenthood provides? False. Abortion is up only 3 percent of the services Planned Parenthood provides. False.
Whether or not Planned Parenthood is breaking the law remains to be seen. Several of the videos show PP employees describing crimes in great detail and even laughing about them, but defenders say they were all just taken out of context . It is hard to imagine any context where the actual words of those employees isn’t abhorrent.
Agree or disagree on the videos, there is no doubt that innocent heartbeats are being violently stopped every single day across the country by an organization that receives $500 million dollars of taxpayer money per year while claiming the money and the abortions never cross paths.
This leads us to President Obama and the Democrats, who over the past decade have completely yielded to the radical fringe of the party and are now led by a DNC Chair who refuses to support a single restriction on abortion, and senators who actively champion a woman’s “right” to terminate her pregnancy at any point up until when she leaves the hospital.
This week, those Democrats announced they are poised to ignore the Planned Parenthood videos and block a bill that seeks to ban late term abortions, and the president promised to veto a bill that protected the lives of children who survive botched abortions.
The president’s response was not only difficult to understand, it was factually inaccurate.
By eliminating federal funding for a major provider of health care, H.R. 3134 would limit access to health care for men, women and families across the nation and would disproportionately impact low-income individuals.
H.R. 3504 would impose new legal requirements related to the provision of abortion services in certain circumstances, which would likely have a chilling effect, reducing access to care.
If the president were presented with H.R. 3134 or H.R. 3504, he would veto it.
It is important to grasp what this action is permitting. A late term abortion is when a pregnancy is ended after 20 weeks, when a fetus can survive outside the womb.
The president claims that these regulations would be “chilling,” but the horrendous idea of snapping the neck of a fully viable child at birth is not.
President Obama’s comment about impacting low income minority individuals is also false. Sixty percent of all Planned Parenthood locations are in predominantly white areas, and in several states such as Nevada, Planned Parenthood is significantly more difficult to access than other women’s health centers.
The bottom line is that the Democrats’ blind allegiance to abortion and Planned Parenthood is more important to them than the very real and very clear fact that children are losing their lives every day in this country, sometimes even after being fully born.
At some point, doesn’t it make more sense for the Obama administration to just admit this practice is wrong, rather than be caught in dodge after dodge, lie after lie?
Don’t forget, this discussion we are currently involved in has nothing to do with the legality of abortion or the right for women to have abortions. The bill reroutes Planned Parenthood funding to the thousands of women’s health centers across the country that are significantly more accessible and provide more services. Planned Parenthood can continue providing as many abortions as it pleases, just not after 20 weeks and with private funding, just like all the other large private organizations across the world.
Any critique that deviates from that point is disingenuous.
