PASADENA, CA, July 21, 2015 – With all the recent talk about the horrifying things that are happening at Planned Parenthood, much has been made about the blatant immorality and callousness that illegally performing partial birth abortions in order to harvest the organs of infants for profit inherently embodies.
While the depravity of that reality is certainly important, the understanding that these acts are taking place on the taxpayer’s dime is perhaps even more concerning. Lost within that area of the controversy and further covered up by Planned Parenthood’s misleading public image of a charitable neighborhood birth control and mammogram provider, is the ugly truth that the organization is a massively wealthy and powerful political player.
Besides being the largest abortion provider in the United States, Planned Parenthood also serves as an extension of the Democratic National Committee. Last year alone, PP spent over $600,000 contributing to political campaigns.
Out of the over 100 candidates that Planned Parenthood funneled money to, only one, was a Republican.
Some notable recipients included DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, Sen. Al Franken, Sen. Kay Hagan and of course, Sen. Mark “The Uterus” Udall.
Three prominent Democrat house members, including members of the Congressional pro-choice caucus have been making the rounds supporting Planned Parenthood and claiming that there is nothing wrong with conducting research on “fetal tissue”. The myth that the doctors on these videos were only talking about tissue has been thoroughly debunked by their own words but the media has also failed to mention that those three house members – Rep. Rosa DeLauro (Conn), Rep. Barbara Lee (CA) and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (Illinois) – all received campaign donations from Planned Parenthood.
This spending spree was not unique to 2014, it has been happening for years. In 2011, Planned Parenthood spent $700,000 lobbying to different groups in California.
To summarize, Planned Parenthood is raking in over $1 billion per year, including about $500 million in taxpayer funds and that money is not only being spent on truly abhorrent practices, it is being used as a slush fund to prop up liberal candidates who promise to keep the money flowing.
Many, if not all of the candidates who received donations from Planned Parenthood have been completely silent on the recently published behind the scenes videos. Not a single one of the candidates running for the Democratic presidential nomination have bothered to comment on the atrocious revelations.
Hillary Clinton, the presumptive presidential front runner, is seeing money literally pour in from Planned Parenthood employees and executives to the tune of 20 times more than the rest of the Democrat field combined.
There will surely be calls for Clinton as well as the other Democrats to return some or all of this money which is now marked with controversy but it would be a shocking development if those requests were to be fulfilled.
There has always and will always be special interests in Washington who provide favors for particular sets of candidates with the expectation of favors in return. The difference here is that the line between the tax payer dollar and government cronyism has been blurred beyond the point of recognition.
Senator Charles Schumer, a Democrat, who once famously promised that the Senate will “never, never, never” de-fund Planned Parenthood may be forced to retract that statement now that Republicans control Congress. Top GOP leaders like Rand Paul and John Boehner have pledged to push legislation to strip the organization of federal funding.
The debate that has been sparked by the recent release of these undercover videos is not a question on the legality or even the overall morality of abortion but rather a shocking realization that Planned Parenthood is likely involved in some extremely nefarious actions.
The Planed Parenthood staff members freely admit in the videos that partial birth abortions whichare both illegal and opposed by the majority of Americans are being performed at these clinics in order to safely harvest body parts of dead children. That’s a fact.
The question now becomes, should the taxpayers be responsible for funding such an immoral practice and if so, should those tax payer funds also be used as a proxy fundraising wing of the Democratic party.
