ObamaLand: Where the illegal is legal and vice versa

Convoluted logic and twisted terminology have been used to affect, avoid and block justice by lower courts. Now we have illegal immigrants and ObamaCare.

MILLINOCKET, Maine, July 12, 2015 – Lawyers must be salivating after President Obama’s decree on Thursday, which in essence throws existing immigration law and quite possibly the Constitution onto the trash heap.

If the devil is in the details, then certainly Old Nick is all over this one. What great fun it must be for purveyors of legalese to witness such wonderful obfuscation.

While the US has done precious little to dam the flow of illegal immigrants into the country, it has now given carte blanche for them to enjoy the benefits of citizenship.

But beyond this, haven’t we been allowing legal arguments to displace justice over the years? Is this what has turned “criminal justice” into an oxymoron?

To borrow a line from Bill Clinton, I guess it depends on what your definition of “is” is. When defense devolves into things like parsing two letter words, we have abandoned trying to determine truth in favor of weaseling our way out of a situation.

In the legal world you’ll find thousands of cases where convoluted logic and twisted terminology have been used to affect, avoid and block justice. The President’s executive action on immigration is just one more example of the intent to subvert the law of the land.
