SAN ANTONIO, TX, July 22 — Hamas, an internationally recognized terrorist group, has been in power in the Gaza Strip since 2005 when the Israelis unsettled that area to try to make peace with the Palestinians. Since then, Hamas regularly and continually fires rockets at Israeli citizens and sends suicide bombers to Israel in order to kill and wound Israeli citizens, in an attempt to make Israel retaliate.
In June, Hamas kidnapped and murdered three Israeli teenagers and then celebrated the tragedy.
When Israel does retaliate, as in this case, Hamas uses civilians as human shields and tries to increase the amount of civilian casualties, because they know that apologists for the Islamic terrorists in Western media and government will condemn Israel and likely force Israel to accept an offer to end the conflict that is very unfavorable to them.
President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry go out of their way to condemn Israel for defending itself against a terrorist group that has as its highest stated priority Israel’s destruction and the death of all of the Jews. Kerry recently claimed that Israel would become an apartheid state if it did not accept the radical terms of a very bad agreement he tried to force upon Israel.
Obama, in every speech on this topic, does whatever he can to legitimize the terrorists’ lies and propaganda. He accepts Hamas’ allegations that Israel is targeting civilians, while ignoring information that Hamas is using civilians in Gaza as human shields.
Without this supportive U.S. rhetoric, it is almost a certainty that Hamas would accept one of the many ceasefire deals Israel continues to offer. Instead, Hamas rightly believes that the mounting political pressure from Obama and other western apologists for the Islamic terrorists will delegitimize Israel on the world stage and lead to an agreement favorable to Hamas. If Hamas knew that the United States backed Israel in this conflict, they would agree to a ceasefire today, knowing that world opinion was against them.
The blood of the Gazan civilians is therefore squarely on the hands of Obama and his allies in the mainstream media who fecklessly repeat his talking points ad nauseam. They have effectively become the propaganda arm of radical Islamic terrorists.
Hamas considers the death of every Jew in the world and the complete destruction of Israel its highest priority and its reason for being established. For example, the Hamas charter proudly quotes this verse of the Koran and states that it is every individual Muslim’s duty to fulfill it: “The prophet [Mohammad] said: The time will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!”
Every single day Hamas fires rockets at Israeli civilians, forcing Israeli citizens to rush to the bomb shelters that they have built throughout the entire country. Hamas brags about its use of civilians as human shields. Both the attempts to kill innocent Israeli civilians and the use of Hamas’ own civilians as human shields violate the Geneva Convention as well as settled international law.
Israel has never taken any action that would indicate that it wants anything other than to live in peace.
Hamas and all of the radical Islamic terrorists that agree with them believe that their God requires them to kill or subjugate every infidel – with strong emphasis on the Jews. These people are among the most evil people to have ever walked the planet – much more evil than Hitler and the Nazis could have ever dreamed of.
Rather than recognize these facts, Obama and the Islamic terrorist apologists in the mainstream media always call for Israeli “restraint.” The “restraint” practiced by Israel is unrivaled in the history of armed conflict. Israel warns civilians in targeted areas that they are preparing military strikes and urges them to leave, via text messages and by dropping leaflets. They then follow a procedure they call a “knock on the roof,” where they send a “dummy” rocket that hits the building they plan on striking to send a final message to civilians to leave the building before striking that building.
Hamas, on the other hand, uses civilians as human shields and is not afraid to admit to it. In 2008 its interior minister, Fathi Hamad made this very clear: “For the Palestinian people, death has become an industry, at which women excel, and so do all the people living on this land. The elderly excel at this, and so do the mujahideen and the children. This is why they have formed human shields of the women, the children, the elderly, and the mujahideen, in order to challenge the Zionist bombing machine. It is as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: ‘We desire death like you desire life.’”
Also, as recent as two weeks ago Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas’ official spokesman, defended the practice of using civilians as human shields on international television and made a plea for civilians to continue this. All the while the officers of Hamas are allowed to hide in the safety of the bomb shelters that they refuse to allow their citizens to take shelter in, or in the comfort of expensive hotel rooms in Qatar.
Hamas also intentionally fires rockets and stores its military equipment in highly populated residential areas like schools, hospitals, and apartment complexes. Last week, while United Nations workers were touring a UN school in Gaza, they came across 20 rockets being stored in the facility. Intentionally using civilian buildings for military action is a violation of both the Geneva Convention and International Law.
Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, summed up the dichotomy between the two groups. “Here’s the difference between us, We’re using missile defense to protect our civilians, and they’re using their civilians to protect their missiles.”
If the tables were turned and Israel were the weaker of these two groups, there is no question in anyone’s mind that Hamas would destroy Israel and kill as many Jews as humanly possible. If Hamas were to lay down their weapons there would be peace; but, if the Israelis were to lay down their weapons, Hamas would slaughter them all one by one and then praise Allah for it and probably have some sort of celebration.
Israeli ambassador to America, Ron Dermer, made the effect of Obama and the West legitimizing the terrorists by spreading their propaganda clear in a recent interview. “We have an issue now where we have nearly three-quarters of our (Israel’s) population, the equivalent of 200 million Americans in bomb shelters. We have to defend ourselves. They put their missile batteries next to schools, next to mosques, next to hospitals. We’re doing everything we can to keep their innocents out of harm’s way. They (Hamas) are using civilians as human shields. It’s a tactic of war. If you place the blame on Israel, Hamas is going to put more civilians in harm’s way,”
Mr. Dermer is exactly correct, and unfortunately, Obama and his allies will continue to act as the Islamic terrorists’ propaganda machine and reprimand Israel while remaining completely silent about the actions and motivations of the terrorists. The blood of those innocent children and civilians in Gaza is on the hands of Obama, Kerry, and the rest of the Islamist apologists who parrot Obama’s talking points.
The statements from western apologists help Hamas realize that their propaganda campaign against Israel is working. Therefore, Hamas continues to station rockets and other weapons in schools, hospitals, and high traffic civilian areas to increase the civilian casualties and drum up international hatred for Israel.
As long as the western media and politicians push this narrative, Hamas will continue the despicable practice.
Hamas is badly losing this war. Egypt attempted to broker a seize fire between the two before the ground invasion of Gaza began. Israel agreed to the seize fire and agreed to the United Nations request that both sides take a six hour break to further discussions designed to end the war. Hamas responded by shooting a massive barrage of rockets aimed at Tel Aviv during the cease fire.
The only reason Hamas wishes to continue this losing battle with Israel is to increase civilian casualties and drum up international distaste for Israel.
And Obama, Kerry, the media and politicians are helping them reach that goal.
