Obama ignores Hanukkah and Pearl Harbor in his pro-Islam speech

If President George W. Bush had given a speech praising Judeo-Christian values on the first night of Ramadan, leftists and Islamists would have gone ballistic.

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Dec. 7, 2015 — On the night of Dec. 6, 2015, Jews celebrated Hanukkah and celebrated their 5,776 years of existence. The Festival of Lights honors the triumph of the Maccabees and the Jewish struggle for freedom.

That same desire to protect life and liberty at all costs is why Dec. 7 reminds us of that day that will “live in infamy.” When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the American way of life was threatened. Like the Maccabees so many centuries ago, Americans prepared for war to save civilization.

With these two historical events in the background, it was all the more troubling that an American president would ignore them in a rare Sunday night speech to the nation.

Remembering History: Pearl Harbor and World War II

When President Barack Obama spoke on a Sunday night, May 1, 2011, it was to announce that Osama bin Laden had been killed. That speech was noble because the actions taken were righteous. The architect of 9/11 was dead. Obama informed the nation what action was taken, why it was taken and the results of those actions. His remarks were brief and substantive.

On Sunday night, Dec. 6, 2015, he offered remarks that were vapid, shallow and delusional. He is an ideologically blind man trying to convince the world that he is the only one who can see the truth.

The truth is Obama could have waited until Monday to say absolutely nothing about why he is doing absolutely nothing and accomplishing absolutely nothing in the battle to save global civilization. He cannot offer the solution because he is part of the problem. Islamists are murdering people across the globe, and leftists are enabling them by refusing to label radical Islam by name.

It is bad enough that Obama stubbornly refuses to admit that global murders are being committed by people who practice a warped version of Islam. There are a select few on extreme fringe right who blame all Muslims. They are a statistically insignificant group of individuals. The left swings to the other extreme, refusing to admit that Islam bears any correlation to global murders. Mainstream conservatives understand that radical Islam must be called out and defeated, which only strengthens moderate Islam.

What makes Obama’s speech even worse is that he continues to place the concerns of Muslims above those of other religions. He demands Islam be respected while showing disrespect to all others.

President Obama’s police state answer to ISIS

He did not need to give a political speech defending Islam on the first night of a Jewish holiday. He did not need to lecture Americans about Islam’s beautiful traditions while Jews were lighting their menorahs.

If President George W. Bush had given a speech praising Judeo-Christian values on the first night of Ramadan, leftists and Islamists would have gone ballistic.

To paraphrase the 1992 presidential campaign slogan, it’s the timing, stupid. The first night of a Jewish holiday is not the time for a navel-gazing speech about why clear-thinking Americans should coddle Islamists just because an insensitive and obtuse American president does.

If President Obama had to speak on Sunday night, he could have begun his speech by mentioning Hanukkah and Pearl Harbor. He could have shown an ounce of respect to the people who sacrificed their lives do that freedom could triumph over tyranny. Instead, he slapped Western tradition in the face again and repeated his stale talking points about how Americans must tolerate the peaceful religion of Islam.

He could have also stopped referring to ISIL and used the proper acronym ISIS. Terminology matters. ISIS is the Islamic State of Iran and Syria. The L in ISIL is for the Levant, which is the term Islamists use. The Levant covers all of Israel. Obama knows this. No person with an ounce of respect for Jews would use terminology on Hanukkah that denies the Jews their right to exist. He will bend over backward to protect Muslim human rights, but non-Muslims get the back of his hand.

Knowing the truth behind San Bernardino and Colorado Springs terrorism

He also gave this speech to show that he was not an elitist snob hobnobbing at a Paris climate change conference, totally out of touch with reality. Americans were not fooled. At one South Florida sports bar, football fans expressed anger that highlights were being interrupted for him to say nothing in a pious voice. He needed to look busy, when most Americans just wanted to be left alone to enjoy their religion and their sports.

His speech was typical Obama, an ode to himself and how hard he works and how under-appreciated he is. His speech did not say anything new.

He favors Muslims while showing contempt for Jews and Judeo-Christian values. He cautions against committing acts of anti-Muslim violence that are not happening while ignoring genocide against Christians and hate crimes against Jews that are happening.

The only good news is that most of the world, like the people in that one South Florida sports bar, have tuned him out. The world is weary of him and wants him to leave. He can then collect millions in speaking fees to repeat the same leftist drivel ad nauseam.

The bad news is that the world is burning while he lectures the victims of global jihad to be nicer and more sensitive.

A thousand years from now, people will celebrate Hanukkah and honor the heroes of Pearl Harbor. They will not honor Barack Obama, a man so guided by ideological bigotry that he was unable to take personal responsibility for hastening global decline and his own irrelevance.
