WASHINGTON: The members of the United States military are also winning under President Trump. On Thursday the House voted 359-54 approving a $717 billion defense package. The National Defense Authorization Act, will not directly provide money for the military but sets defense policy and serves as a blueprint for federal spending on various military programs, however the Space Force is not among them..
Funding will be determined later by congressional appropriators but it is a first step in repairing our military and troops..
The bill is a compromise that resulted from negotiations between the House and the Senate, each passing different versions of the legislation.
In the end Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act, granting the military a budget of more than $700 billion.
A Soldier earns an average salary of $33,624 per year. As a result of the bill, starting troops will receive their largest pay raise in nine years with a 2.6%, or approximate $1,000 raise in their annual pay. Troops that have high levels of experience or in-demand skills will be receiving bonuses on top of that.
This National Defense Authorization Act package will:
- Increase active troops by 15,600 among the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Guard and the Naval and Air Reserves.
- $17.7 billion to replace worn-out Army equipment and approves new military hardware
- Provide our armed forces with new tools and weapons.
- $36.3 billion will go toward rebuilding naval ships.
- $41.2 billion will go toward Army equipment and infrastructure.
- $40.8 billion will go toward aviation, including 77 new F-35 fighter jets.
It also supports the Trump administration’s push for the development of low-yield nuclear warheads.According to the House Armed Services Committee, this enhancement package
“makes key investments in other critical military capabilities to confront aggression and address threats around the world, including threats from Russia, China, North Korea and Iran.”
The National Defense Authorization Act now heads to the Senate,
The Senate will, hopefully, give final approval to the bill next week. Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee says
“This bill takes a major step forward in rebuilding our military, reforming the Pentagon” and preparing the country for the challenges ahead.
A return to patriotism – the Military Parade
In addition, Trump’s military parade, a showing of military superiority and patriotism planned for this fall to honor the men and women in uniform is endorsed. House and Senate negotiators kept that language in the final bill.
Interesting to note is that despite the Russia hysteria on the left, the new defense package prevents Chinese businesses from working with the U.S. government due to companies like ZTE and Huawei use of “malicious technology” against the U.S.
