CHARLOTTE, NC, November 4, 2014 – The long arm of that jayvee team known as ISIS is beginning to stretch its fingers into the West with some success. Just ask Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Not known for shying away from the truth in such matters, the staunchly Republican member of the House has received such serious online threats that the she is now under 24-hour protection by a Federal security detail, according to Politico. And so the threat of jihad comes to Minnesota.
Islamic extremism is unlike any enemy the U.S. has ever encountered. It is a nebulous blob of evil that seeps into every unguarded crevice of Western society.
Another source, Garth Kant of WND reports that the Politico article “may be adding fuel to the fire by incorrectly reporting that (Bachmann) had called on President Obama to declare war on Islam.” Garth writes that the operative words are “war” and “Islam” which, he says, “Politico” took out of context. In addition, WND Editor and CEO Joseph Farah called for the immediate firing of the Politico reporters Anna Palmer and Rachael Bade who wrote the Bachmann story for “so blatantly misrepresenting Michele Bachmann’s comments.”
Bachmann has long been an outspoken voice against radical Islam and organizations such as the Islamic State. She has also frequently criticized President Barack Obama for his wishy-washy approach to foreign policy, especially when dealing with the Middle East.
The comments in question by Bachmann came in a speech in which Kant says the senator was quoted incorrectly by Politico.
Speaking to the Value Voters Summit in Washington on Sept. 26, Bachman’s unedited text read as follows: “It’s because we have jihadists who are subscribing to this radical ideology that believes that dying in the name of Islam gets them to heaven. This is spiritual warfare, and what we need to do is defeat Islamic jihad.” She continued:
“Sadly, our president has the wrong prescription. He even failed to acknowledge their motivations for bringing about jihad. Yes, Mr. President, it is about Islam. And I believe that if you have an evil the order of this magnitude, you take it seriously. You declare war on it, you don’t dance around it, just like the Islamic State has declared war on the United States of America. You kill their leader, you kill their council, you kill their army until they wave the white flag of surrender. That’s how you win a war.”
Whether or not Bachmann is talking about war with Islam or ISIS is a debatable point. What is not open for argument is the implications that a Middle East terror organization can become so powerful from such a great distance that they can pose a threat to the life of an American politician. But even more stunning is the seeming lack of concern taken by the media and other elected officials in Washington when it comes to Bachman’s current situation.
With midterm elections looming, God forbid the possibility that a “November surprise” such as a terrorist act against an American senator could disrupt the voting process while sending an unimaginable message to the world that the United States is no longer capable of dealing with global consequences due to our own incompetence and lack of awareness.
Of course, such an idea is purely speculation, but a Federal security detail for Michele Bachmann is not.
Consider that Bachmann’s speech was made in late September. That was more than a month before the social media messages indicated that she was being threatened.
Consider also the timing of the threats so close to our upcoming elections.
Several noted critics of Islam and its various incarnations such as Brigitte Gabriel and Geert Wilders are perpetually surrounded by personal bodyguards because of their vocal anti-Islamic messages. When an American senator is subjected to that sort of security however, an obvious breakdown has occurred in American leadership and concern over the safety of U.S. citizens.
ISIS is an enemy of the U.S. But it is only a single organization, of which there are far too many to count, that have ties to Islam. Their strategies and individual ideologies may differ, but the ultimate goals are the same.
Michele Bachmann is to be applauded for her relentless, and most of all honest, acknowledgements of the dangers of Islam.
Her courageous stand stands in stark contrast to most officials in Washington, especially President Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. All three and many more in key leadership positions still refuse to accept the magnitude of the worldwide cancer that is radical Islam, which continues to spread with each day it is ignored.
We can only pray that Sen. Bachmann is truly safe and secure.
