CHARLOTTE, NC, August 17, 2014 — As atrocities intensify throughout the Middle East, in particular Iraq and Syria, the mainstream press has, at long last, begun reporting the horrors of Islamic extremism.
Beheadings, stonings and other mutilations which have been commonplace in Islam since its inception, are now being recognized by the West as standard operating procedure.
Thanks to the relentless warnings of people like Pamela Geller, Brigitte Gabriel, Raymond Ibrahim, Walid Shoebat and Robert Spencer to mention a few, Western awareness is beginning to comprehend that the cancer of Islam reaches far deeper than we ever realized.
One element of Islamic that has received little attention however, despite the kidnapping of hundreds of young women by Boko Haram, is the idea that sex slavery is morally acceptable in the Muslim world.
Difficult as it may be to believe such practices are endorsed by a religion in the 21st century, the Koran has several verses which condone the idea. Furthermore, many Islamic scholars readily accept that sex slavery is part of Islamic law and, as such, is regarded as the spoils of victory when an enemy is defeated.
As Robert Spencer states in “Jihad Watch” “The savage exploitation of girls and young women is, unfortunately, a cross-cultural phenomenon, but only (emphasis added) in Islamic law does it carry divine sanction.”
How can anyone reasonably believe it is possible to negotiate with organizations that regard using women as slaves as a “divine sanction”?
As the Koran says in Surah 33:50. “Prophet, We have made lawful for you the wives to whom you have granted dowries and the slave-girls who God has given you as booty.”
Spencer writes that the Egyptian Sheikh Abu-Ishaq al-Huwayni made a vehement statement in 2011 in which he promised that Muslims would take slaves.
“All scholars agree on this – there is no disagreement from any of them. When I want a sex slave, I just go to the market and choose the woman I like and purchase her,” said al-Huwayni.
Shortly afterwards, Salwa al-Mutairi, a female politician from Kuwait, confirmed al-Huwayni’s announcement by saying “the practice (of sexual slavery are) accorded with Islamic law and the parameters of Islamic morality.”
Spencer continues by reporting that a Muslim merchant who wished to purchase a sex slave was uncertain about its legality under Islamic law. The merchant went to Mecca to seek advice from a mufti.
“Is this forbidden by Islam?” he asked.
The mufti replied, “Absolutely not. Sex slaves are not forbidden by Islam. On the contrary, sex slaves are under a different law than the free woman. The free woman must be completely covered except for her face and hands. But the sex slave can be naked from the waist up. She differs a lot from the free woman. While the free woman requires a marriage contract, the sex slave does not – she only needs to be purchased by her husband, and that’s it.”
Most notably in recent weeks has been the abduction of hundreds of Yazidi Christians in Iraq. Turkomen and Shabak women, girls and, even, boys have been the victims of sexual brutality. According to Zainab Hawa Bangura and Nickoly Mladenvev, both of whom work to prevent sexual violence in Iraq, roughly 1,500 “Yazidi and Christian persons may have been forced into sexual slavery.”
Islamic law still requires a female victim of rape to produce four witnesses to corroborate her story. All a man has to do is basically deny wrong-doing.
Women convicted of being raped are dishonorable and can be stoned to death. Stonings involve putting a woman into a pit and burying her up to her waste before her executioners throw rocks at her until she is dead.
Muslim men are allowed to take as many as four wives based upon Koranic scripture. The Prophet Muhammad, of course, had many more than that due to convenient revelations that granted him permission to satisfy his masculine needs.
In fact, Muhammad’s favorite wife, Aisha, was only nine years old when the marriage was consummated. Being the gentleman he was, the prophet waited until they had been married two years before performing that deed.
The good news is that the media is slowly reporting some of the atrocities in the Middle East. The bad news is they do not go far enough.
If it is true that “the pen is mightier than the sword,” then the Koran will long outlive the rockets and bombs of the West.
As long as Islam continues to thrive within its own medieval ideals, Muslim women will continue to be second-class and non-Muslim women will be regarded as property.
That is the Islamic way.
