Like the World Series, could Big Mo determine the election

"Big Mo." The Chicago Cubs had it and Donald Trump has it. What is worse for Hillary Clinton and her campaign is that the Democrats know it. They can see it. They can feel it. They can even hear it.

CHARLOTTE, NC, November 3, 2016 – Every sports fan in the world knows exactly what it is. They may not be able to put it into words, but then it is a phenomenon that defies words anyway. Once it starts, it is virtually impossible to stop, especially when it happens late in a game.

It’s called “momentum.” Or the “Big Mo.”

The Chicago Cubs had it and won the World Series. Donald Trump has it and he could win the White House.

Hillary Clinton and Democrats know where the Big Mo is. They can see it. They can feel it. They can even hear it.

If you don’t believe it just look at how the campaign stops have changed within the past week. Visits to red states to “add” some house and senate seats have turned to regrouping trips into blue states with every possible surrogate available, including Barack Obama, trying to make Clinton’s case.

The mess Clinton created, and make no mistake she can only blame herself, finally got the attention of the American people when FBI Director James Comey opened Pandora’s Box late last week.

Hillary Clinton’s Twitter problem

As the trickle of news gathers “momentum” and the dam appears to be breaking (there are only so many thumbs you can plug into all the holes), the gusher of revelations is beginning to show a depth to the situation that surprised even conservative media.

Given the volume of news that has erupted like Mt Vesuvius in just the past few days, the lava flow is encapsulating everyone and everything in sight. It has become the Pompeii of politics to such an extent that Watergate looks like a baking soda model of Vesuvius by comparison.

Big Mo is forcing Team Clinton into a prevent that has no time left on the clock with no more time outs. You can hear the desperation in their voices as they bring out the old playbooks that worked in the past but have little chance in the waning moments of the 2016 presidential game.

The Clinton e-mail scandal has been moved to a back burner but only for a while. The reason is because James Comey’s investigation has revealed that there is related corruption with their foundation.

Unfortunately for Clinton, the break in the dam came when the FBI discovered incriminating information on Huma Abedin’s computer after they obtained it from her estranged husband Anthony Weiner. The foundation is likely to prove more damaging to the Clintons than the e-mails.

Even worse, however, is that “Mo” was already starting to emerge through the fog of deception before Comey made his announcement which meant that Comey’s efforts did nothing more than turn the defroster on to makes things become clearer, faster.

The Clinton-Trump election and America’s flaming farts

Many sportscasters say that too much is made of momentum. You will never hear an athlete tell you that, however. Athletes know instinctively when it starts to happen and they know there is no way to slow the process.

Pat Caddell, former pollster for Jimmy Carter, claims he knew that his man was finished days before the election with Ronald Reagan. He says the current tsunami feels much the same as it did in 1980.

Some talking heads have attempted to surmise that this could be a situation where Comey has nothing and could break another blockbuster announcement to that effect later this week which shows that Clinton is the Girl Scout she claims to be.

Don’t count on it.

If that were the case, Attorney General Loretta Lynch would not be withholding access to vital information that has been requested by the FBI.

And, considering that Lynch met privately several months ago with Bill Clinton for 45-minutes on a plane in Arizona, combined with all the other “stuff” that is suddenly coming out, does not make Lynch look too good either.

One thing is certain. This is not going away any time soon. It will be with us long after the election is over and it could result in much of Washington as it now exists being exposed to its very rotten core.

That could take a lot of heat off Donald Trump, should he win. It might be just the right amount of distraction he needs to work himself into the role of president.

On the other hand, Trump has never done anything quietly.

This scandal is not winding down. It is only just getting started. And Big Mo is taking it all in.
