COLORADO SPRINGS: If you are over fifty, you may recall the news coming to you often datelined, Associated Press, AP, or United Press International, UPI. Trusted labels, that brought us news of significance.
However, in 2018, see what the Associated Press has become:
“Washington, September 9, 2018 – The White House seethes with intrigue and backstabbing as aides hunt for the anonymous Deep (state) Throat among them. A president feels besieged by tormentors – Bob Woodward is driving them crazy – so he tends his version of an enemies list, wondering aloud if he should rid himself of his attorney general or the special prosecutor of both.”
“For months, the Trump administration and its scandals have carried whiffs of Watergate and drawn comparisons to the characters and crimes of the Nixon era.”
Thus ‘reported’ Calvin Woodward and Nancy Benac for the AP in a so-called ‘news’ article.
Does the Associated Press even deliver real news anymore?
As Digital Resource Center has observed,
“One of the more confusing things about journalism is the appearance of opinion inside news shows, news websites or newspapers. We’re not talking about a report that quotes experts or witnesses providing their opinion or what happened or will happen. We’re talking about journalists who express their opinions, in movie reviews, columns and editorials and video commentaries.”
With eighty percent of the national news media reportedly self-identifying as democrat or liberal, their inclusion of personal views into legitimate news stories is as understandable as it is deplorable, to coin a phrase. Unfortunately, the problem is that many Americans still read such so-called ‘news stories,’ believing them to be truth incarnate.
Unfortunately, in many instances in today’s news media, what they are getting is opinion and blatant propaganda. What some might politely call, “transference.” Reporters such as Woodward and Benac without apology, are inserting their own feelings, desires, and expectations into their work.
Were Woodward and Benac hiding in the Oval Office?
Perhaps there’s another explanation: Woodward and Benac, AP ‘news reporters,’ may be psychic. Perhaps they used their extrasensory perception, ESP, to identify information hidden from them. Or, although, unlikely, they decamped to positions beneath the President’s desk, wherefrom they were able to glean and report to us the true motives of the Commander in Chief.
None dare call the news “propaganda”
Or, there is still another explanation of how these ‘reporters’ were able to ‘report’ to us our president’s innermost thoughts: Perhaps they made them up out of whole cloth, and installed them into leftist propaganda masquerading as the truth.
Perhaps “J school” no longer teaches legitimate reporting or the difference between opinion reporting and regular news reporting. Perhaps it feels so good to see their own views in print, with no one except President Trump seemingly calling them on it – “Fake News! that they continue to engage in their own Bolshevik version of “the truth.”
The truth may now be, as the AP and other “news organizations” have shown us recently, what these self-appointed elite ‘reporters’ say is “the truth.”
Hollywood presents the truth, in “A Few Good Men”:
Judge Randolph: (to Kaffee from the judge’s bench) Consider yourself in contempt!
Kaffee: Colonel Jessup, did you order the Code Red?
Judge Randolph: You don’t have to answer the question!
Col. Jessup: I’ll answer the question! (to Kaffee) You want answers?
Kaffee: I think I’m entitled to.
Col. Jessup: You want answers?
Kaffee: I WANT THE TRUTH!
Col. Jessup: YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Perhaps we can’t handle the truth
Perhaps, in the end, it is not unreasonable for readers, voters, United States citizens, to expect the news media to deliver them the truth, rather than opinions masked as news.
However, if we fail to recognize opinion when it’s cadged inside straight news, and, worse, if we fail to challenge the Associated Press’ Woodward and Benac, and others like them, as was done to Col. Jessup in a movie, we will continue to be spoon-fed other people’s lies and propaganda.
THE TRUTH! WE CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH!
It’s not too much to ask. Is it?
