WASHINGTON: A recent biography review (The Abbeville Institute), Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty, by Charles Leerhsen, reveals the legacy of the underhanded yellow journalism and muckraking media. Back in the 1940’s, when Jim Crow as strong in the South, the accusations against the ballplayer were vile and false. It was a left wing media, yes even then, promoting a narrative that all Southerners, by birth, were racist bigots.
The left/right positions on the political spectrum are, for the most part, liberals and Democrats vs. conservatives and Republicans. Both impugn character with equality of assassination. Whether or not this is accurate insofar as conservatives are concerned matters little.
The politics of personal destruction: Declaring Pres. Trump a narcissist
After all, calling most Republicans conservatives is like calling a pig’s ear a silk purse. Historically most of the media are left wing socialists Democrats who deny any reality outside their political narrative.
However, the left side, singularly, has demonstrated a vicious and degenerate behavior that isn’t going to change. The nature of liberal propaganda is a lust for self-gain and power.
The seeking of journalistic truth by either party is no more accurate than Rasputin’s advice to the Russian Czar. Liberals don’t care who knows what they are, because they claim they are the source of truth.
The point in bringing the Ty Cobb reference up is to show that he did live, by those who knew him, a great life. He had, among those that knew him, a stellar reputation. Unfortunately, media from the left or right will despise anyone who gets credit for a life of fortune and success if its needs to foment hate for political gain.
Ty Cobb and birthright flaws
Ty Cobb died in 1961. His accomplishments in baseball are unmatched. His outside accomplishments were almost as well-known among his contemporaries. He was well-liked by other Hall of Famers such as Tris Speaker and Walter Johnson contrary to Field of Dreams, and he was also famous for encouraging young ballplayers. However, being from Georgia, he had birthright flaws. He was Southern and conservative.
It was well-known at the time, 1947, of Cobb’s unqualified support of Jackie Robinson:
“The Negro should be accepted wholeheartedly and not grudgingly. The Negro has the right to play professional baseball and who’s to say he is not?”
Of course, in today’s sanctimonious presentism media using the word “Negro” would lead to castigation.
The lies about a good man, all because he fit the Southerner narrative
Fictitious documentaries and unauthorized biographies have described Cobb as a (drum roll) racist and a bigot. Cobb was, the fake news says, even cruel beyond measure to ballplayers and friends. These are themselves falsehoods generally from the left. However, the suck-up wimps on the right fail to speak out. Lest they be a racist bigot.
Cobb’s modern media detractors who rupture the truth for personal gain and esteem in their self-shinning limelight have been on the attack almost immediately since his death.
The Republic vs Mob Democracy: Pray the republic will win
Such timing is virtually perfect insofar as the beginning of the denigration of the heart of conservatism, the American South, in the early sixties.
However, the right wing of the spectrum, will not defend the South because of its traitorous nature led by newly discovered horrible characters like Robert E, Lee, and Jefferson Davis.
Thus Republicans started calling themselves conservatives for the first time since Coolidge.
The Republican right is no better than the left side when it comes to conscience
So, both the right and the left have no use for those historical characters such as Cobb, unless they can link them to something terrible in present-day politics. Because everyone in the present should be perfect. Unlike those imperfect rubes of the past.
However, the left is vile. They are congressional creatures of the night and its Antifa allies. Supporters have not left such judgment to a matter of written opinion about histories’ characters. They are just vile. Their chants and rallies are like sounds of the demon in The Exorcist.
The right, however, doesn’t do a lot of “vile.” It has enough Neocons and pseudo-historians to fracture history through stupidity. Alternatively, they lie.
I think Donald Trump may have more insight than any, and he may unleash his true views before he exits. He may be a Yankee, but he does have guts. Moreover, it will take at least that to get past the slanderous remarks from left and right if he starts discussing history the way Harry Truman or Dwight Eisenhower might have.
“Three things cannot long be hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”
