LOS ANGELES: Following the brutality at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania there are calls for unity. Last week a white supremacist who hated President Donald Trump yelled “All Jews must die” before murdering 11 Jews. The oldest victim was a 97-year-old Holocaust survivor. Those at the Tree of Life had gathered for the most beautiful of ceremonies in any religion – the naming of a new life.
Over the weekend, cities, religious houses, and persons all across America held vigils to honor the fallen. Eleven Americans, who were also Jews, were brutally murdered.
Paul Wellstone (D-MN): Where the politicized Liberal Protest performance began
Sadly, Los Angeles chose to dishonor decent people everywhere with the ugliest display since Paul Wellstone’s funeral. Senator Wellstone (D-MN) died just 11 days prior to the 2002 race to maintain Democratic control of the Senate. A memorial service for the Senator, his wife, child, campaign staffers and the pilots is held in the Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota. The service broadcast live on national TV.
In what may be among the first of the “happening now” political media coverage, the lengthy service was replete with political speeches and open advocacy of the liberal agenda. High-profile politicians attended the memorial, including former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, and more than half of the U.S. Senate.
Republicans, including Vice President Dick Cheney, were not so welcome. The Wellstone memorial service was a chance for liberals to stage an Arena Rally to support their agenda, not bid goodbye to a faithful servant.
The former United States Senator Al Franken wrote that “reasonable people of good will were genuinely offended” by the display. Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura left the services early.
The left holds an “anything by unity” rally in Los Angeles
More than 2,000 Angelenos left the Dodgers World Series game and Sunday Night Football for what was falsely billed as a unity rally. There was no unity. There were leftist politics, with calls for diversity and intersectionality. Muslim speakers addressed their victimhood, while religious Orthodox Jews did not even get to speak. The local Chabad rabbi is not given the microphone to express prayers of healing. Orthodox Jews overwhelmingly vote Republican, and this unity rally is only about empowering the left.
It is not about unity. Or remembering those slaughtered at the Tree of Life Synagogue.
One liberal Jewish woman played to the stereotypical angry liberal Jew by attacking America’s “maniacal obsession with guns.” Rabbi Jonathan Klein, a well-known leftist agitator, was seen glad-handing leftists of other faiths while steering clear of the few Orthodox Jews in attendance.
The voice of the Jews, and unity, drowned by the Liberal protest sounds of anger and hate
There were brief traces of what a unity solidarity vigil is supposed to be. Some Jews sang songs in English and Hebrew that celebrated togetherness. There was not enough of this. There was plenty of leftist politicking. The Democratic Socialists of America proudly displayed t-shirts commemorating their cause.
Large signs demanding the removal of President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence were there for all to see.
Other signs say “Resist. Vote. Win.” Another sign says “I blame Trump.” The President is derided as a “fascist” by those who do not know what fascism is. Another poster notes that no human being is illegal. The crowd attacked attempts at protecting the border as racist and fascist.
Liberals taking on the mantle of the Palestinians
As the Wellstone memorial was in 2002, this event in Los Angeles was about mobilizing Democrat voters right before the midterm elections. It had nothing to do with unity. It also exposed the biggest flaw with American liberals today. Liberals are the new Palestinians. Far too many Palestinians cannot and will not accept that Jews have a right to exist.
Far too many liberals cannot and will not agree that conservatives, Republicans and Trump supporters have a right to live.
A cautionary tale to Liberals
Tolerance and unity do not run both ways as liberals repeatedly unite to attack conservatives. Until liberals see conservatives as human beings, real unity is impossible. Former presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton says there can be no unity until conservatives embrace the ideology of the liberal left.
What the left might want to remember, following the death of Democrat Senator Paul Wellstone, Republican Norman Coleman beat Democrat Walter Mondale, turning that Blue seat Red, in a state where Democrats have been in charge since 1946.
Mourning the lost eleven
For those looking for a real, honest vigil dedicated to unity and solidarity, find an Orthodox synagogue. Orthodox Jews put religious values first and politics last. Liberal Jews keep proving over and over that they are liberals first and Jews second if at all.
Decent people everywhere grieve over 11 murdered Jews in Pittsburgh. Only the indecent left would exploit their deaths to hold a hardcore leftist political rally and lie to everybody about what it was.
This event dishonored those we lost and showed the American left to be exclusionary bullies hell-bent on dehumanizing anyone, not on the left. They will never be anywhere near as evil as the Pittsburgh shooter, but they will also never be anywhere near as good as real kind, unifying people.
