John Kerry’s pivots back to Israel: Perpendicular diplomacy from the Middle East?

Written By | Jul 21, 2014

LOS ANGELES, July 21, 2014 – A decade after losing the presidential race, John Forbes Kerry finally achieved his dream of failing on the world stage. President Obama’s Secretary of State was hired to browbeat Israel into a peace deal that would result in the Jewish state’s cultural suicide. As with any Obama nominee, Kerry only had to obey one rule: Do not embarrass the boss. Obama does not have time to lead the world, raise his two children, and babysit Vice President Joe Biden.

Kerry was never expected to be successful, but he was expected to be competent.

Competence at the State Department means speaking in platitudes, bromides and meanderings, while avoiding any loaded words that could be translated from Foggy Bottomspeak into English. Kerry failed to obey the memo about Obfuscation Nation, and now he is paying for it.

The ultra-patrician lily-white Christian Kerry referred to the Jewish state of Israel as an “apartheid state.” The very term is one that plays into anti-Semites all over the world. Israel is the furthest thing from an apartheid state, which is why Arabs would rather live in Israel than in any other Arab nation.

If one wants to visit an apartheid state, visit John Wellington Winthrop Chartwell Rufus Choate Kerry’s life growing up as a student in a Massachusetts boarding school. The only diversity in Kerry’s life came in the form of differing shades of gray on his elbow patches.

Kerry is fiercely obedient to President Obama, dutifully carrying out the Obama Doctrine of “perpendicular diplomacy.” The strategy has failed with Vladimir Putin in Russia, Bashar Assad in Syria, and everywhere it has ever been tried by leftists confusing groveling with strength.

The only time perpendicular diplomacy ever has a chance of succeeding is when the person used to bending over and prostrating themselves finds a weaker target that will bend over and prostrate more.

Israel makes the perfect target for leftists used to being ridiculed all across the globe by everybody not in academia. Bullying Israel works because their are no domestic consequences. Liberals of all styles may have invented perpendicular diplomacy, but liberal Jews have perfected it. The chances of liberal Jews standing up to Kerry and Obama is about as likely as Kerry and Obama standing up to Putin. The only times Kerry and Obama have steel spines is when prostrating liberal Jews get lodged and wedged so tight that it uncomfortably forces the perpendicular to bend upright.

There are two ways to avoid taking part in perpendicular diplomacy.

The first way goes above Obama and Kerry’s pay grade. It involves them “doing” what non-academics would describe as “something.”  President George W. Bush overthrew the Taliban in Afghanistan and Saddam Hussein in Iraq. The strategy worked until liberal perpendicular diplomacy lost most of those gains. Force actually works.

The second way is something that even Obama and Kerry could possibly develop as a capability. It is the “get out of the way” doctrine. If one cannot make things better, admit uselessness and do no harm.

Kerry remains hellbent on forcing a peace process on parties who do not want one as badly as he does. The Palestinian leaders want to destroy Israel. The Hamas charter calls for this. Israeli leaders want to stop the Palestinian terrorism attacks without American interference.

As much as everybody saw George W. Bush as an interventionist, he got out of the way of Israel and gave Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon a free hand to root out Palestinian terrorism. Sharon crushed Yasir Arafat and reduced the violence. That and only that brought Palestinians to the peace table.

Liberals tend to be obsessed with change. They often claim that the status quo is unsustainable. Says who? Why should Kerry get to decide?

Kerry desperately wants a peace deal to counter the image of Kerry as useless, and irrelevant. Trying to force a deal to remove a perception of weakness only enhances that perception. Kerry had no leverage. Now he is threatening to offer a final deal and tell the parties to “take it or leave it.”

They will leave it, and Kerry will blister the parties and do nothing.

Kerry and Obama perfectly calculated the liberal American Jewish community and their never-ending sniveling quest to be liked. This made them the perfect patsies for perpendicular diplomacy. What Kerry and Obama failed to grasp is that Israelis do not take their orders from Americans living comfortably on Boca Raton golf courses or Upper Westside Manhattan Trump Tower Condominiums.

Israelis are made of steel. They are battle-hardened. They know they cannot be war-weary until the other side stops trying to wipe them off the face of the earth.

If “Little Satan” Israel goes down, “Great Satan” America is the next target. Then the Arab Muslim dream of an Islamic Caliphate will finally be achieved.

An Islamic Caliphate with no Westerners? That would be an apartheid state. Anybody who stands upright can grasp this. Kerry, Obama, and perpendicular diplomacy crowd never will.
