CHARLOTTE, N.C., December 15, 2014 — Thanks to Vice President Joe “The Gaffer” Biden, we have been treated to yet another example of the arrogance of the Obama Administration.
Recently Ayaan Hirsi Ali gave a speech at a Washington dinner in which she alluded to an encounter with the vice president. As a longtime advocate for global women’s rights, she was supposed to receive an honorary degree from Brandeis University in early April of this year, but the school buckled under pressure from student activists and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
During the controversy, one CAIR spokesman described Hirsi Ali as “one of the worst of the worst of the Islam haters in America.“
Ironically, it did not take long for Ali’s warnings to be confirmed when the Islamist terror group in Nigeria known as Boko Haram kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls. Other abductions followed in Nigeria throughout the summer, and multiple jihadist incidents have occurred in the Middle East for the past eight months.
The Islamic State has been among the worst offenders, but the list is an ever-increasing catalogue of extremist organizations that continue to plague the global community.
Hirsi Ali was raised as a Muslim in two Islamic countries. At the age of five, she suffered female genital mutilation in her home country of Somalia.
As a Muslim woman, Hirsi Ali read the Koran and accepted its teachings until her family decided to force her into an arranged marriage. Rather than accept her family’s decision, she fled to the Netherlands where she became a translator and later an outspoken advocate on behalf of other Somali women who were seeking asylum.
Despite her life lessons and disagreements with the Islam that is rooted in her East African upbringing, critics assert that Hirsi Ali is Islamophobic. Like so many politically correct apologists, her detractors argue that she does not represent the full spectrum of Islamic beliefs. Among the detractors, of course, is the Obama Administration which continues to say that “ISIS is not Islam.“
Enter Biden, the veep who campaigned with Barack Obama in 2012 on the slogan that “Al-Qaeda is dead.“
During Hirsi Ali’s Washington speech, she recalled an occasion when she met the vice president who promptly informed her that “ISIS had nothing to do with Islam.“
When Hirsi Ali disagreed with him, Biden responded by saying, “Let me tell you one or two things about Islam.“
To which Ali replied, amid laughter from the audience, “I politely left the conversation at that. I wasn’t used to arguing with vice presidents.“
This is just another, yet profound, example of how the current administration, from President Obama on down, truly believes it knows more than anyone else about everything. That arrogance extends beyond the administration to congressional Democrats and the administration’s outside supporters, from Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to Jonathan Gruber.
Like so many others who follow Obama’s way of thinking regarding Islam, they have probably never opened a Koran, studied the tenets or the history of the faith, or comprehend its goals. Everything is based purely upon gut responses and the concept of “victimization.“
“Liberals,“ said Hirsi Ali, “protect Islamic extremists partly because the Left has no idea what really goes on in Muslim countries.
“They feel all religions are the same, and they’re not. I would say (they take the position they do) because they see them (Muslims) as victims. They see them as victims of the white man and so they think: ‘Let’s protect them from the white man. Let’s protect them from capitalism.’ … That is misguided at best and malicious at worst.
“Wherever (Islamists) gain power, you see exactly what they do: The first thing they do is they chase women out of the public space, force them to cover up, beat them up, rape them, sell them into slavery,” said Ali.
We need look no further than Western Europe for proof where today the hijab is practically a fashion statement.
As for Vice President Biden, perhaps Samuel Beckett summed him up best when he wrote, “Any fool can turn a blind eye but who knows what the ostrich sees in the sand.”
