WASHINGTON: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) went to the floor of the Senate on Wednesday to express his view that “no threat poses a greater danger to our planet than climate change” and that President Donald Trump is something like “a member of the Flat Earth Society” on this issue.
“On the climate, as I have said so many times, no threat poses a greater danger to our planet than that of climate change,” says Schumer.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) and Democrats are keen on warning Americans that President Trump is an existential threat to America.
And from Joe Biden to Chuck Schumer there is a promise to eviscerate the 45th President. Eviscerating meaning to disembowel.
Which is much harsher than Speaker Pelosi’s promise to lock him up.
The greater threat to Schumer may be Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
The former Bronx Bartender is liking political life. Not only has she declared “I’m the boss now,” to most recently she has been lobbying for a pay raise because it’s hard to make ends meet on $174,000 a year.
Which means politicians could be open for taking black money in order to survive. The average yearly income in the US is under $60,000 per year.
Ocasio-Cortez became a blip on the political radar when she managed a primary victory against former Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY). Crowley was expected to not only keep his seat but also to rise to a House leadership position such as House speaker or House majority leader.
Reports are now saying she may challenge primary Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Or possible Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), because, you know, a girl needs to have option.
The report arises as a Harris poll for Axios found a rising interest in socialism, especially among women. The survey found that 55 percent of women aged 18 to 54 approve of more progressive policies.
Corbin Trent, Ocasio-Cortez’s communications director, says that Ocasio-Cortez wants to move the party towards more progressive issues, such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. And that he does not anticipate a primary fight for Senate Minority seat. But then this is Ocasio-Cortez and we can absolutely believe she is dreaming of being the first female president.
America just needs to be patient while she grows up. AOC is now 29, six years shy of presidential age. That said, our youngest President was Theodore Roosevelt, at the age of 42 years
Can AOC even win statewide office?
While Ocasio-Cortez might remain popular in her home district, she might have more trouble running for statewide office.
The Sienna College Institute research shows that 47 percent of Democrats view AOC favorably. That is versus the 30 percent of Democrats who did not view her in a positive light. Furthermore, Ocasio-Cortez has a 43 percent favorability rating in New York City.
In New York suburbs, her favorability drops to 25 percent. In upstate New York City she drops to 21 percent favorability.
Further, while she has a 47 percent favorability rating among black voters and 47 percent favorability among Latino voters, she has a 29 percent favorability among white voters, 27 percent favorability among Catholics, and 16 percent among Jewish voters.
However, Ocasio-Cortez might soon face a primary challenger of her own. In May Rep. Crowley says Ocasio-Cortez will likely face a primary challenger in 2020. That challenger is Rich Valdes, who has previously written for CommDigiNews.
