CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 8, 2014 — News reports about strategies, or lack of strategies, to eradicate the Islamic State should be a major cause for concern. Such reports indicate that the West has has not figured out how to deal with Islamic jihad.
Though media and high ranking Western government officials are equally guilty of almost willful naïveté, Barack Obama is by far the worst offender.
“It is absolutely critical that we have Arab states, and specifically Sunni-majority states, that are rejecting the kind of extremist nihilism that we’re seeing out of ISIL, that say, ‘That is not what Islam is about’”, stated Obama. That philosophy is just wrong on multiple levels. So very, very wrong.
Two Islamic experts, Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller, have been beating their heads against the walls for years trying to explain what the enemy known as Islam is all about.
Once again, Spencer refutes Obama, writing, “If Sunni states do not take up arms against the Islamic State, it will not be because ‘that’s not what Islam is about,’ but because it is not in the interests of states like Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey to acknowledge a caliph and give up their sovereignty, and because significant elements of the populations of Egypt and Turkey don’t want to live under Islamic law, such that the governments of both states may find it in their interests to take down the Islamic State.”
Just because the Islamic State happens to be the most savage jihadist group the modern world has ever seen, with Boko Haram a close second, does not mean that doing away with either of them will resolve the issues we must deal with concerning Islam itself.
Totally destroy both the Islamic State and Boko Haram, and Hamas, al-Qaeda, Hezbollah and all the others will still remain. Nothing will be changed.
Speaking from Wales, Obama boldly claimed, “Our goal is to act with urgency but also make sure that we’re doing it right, that we have the right targets, that there’s support on the ground … that we have a strong political coalition.”
When has Barack Obama ever acted with urgency? When, if ever, has he made the right decision when it comes to foreign policy? Who does the President think he is kidding?
Even George W. Bush went out of his way to make it clear that “we are not at war with Islam.”
Until the United States and the West finally wake up and admit that no matter who we are battling in the Islamic world, we are, in fact, at war with Islam.
When the Prophet Muhammad founded Islam in 622, there was no Islamic State. There were no organizations like Hamas or Boko Haram or al-Qaeda. The religion now known as Islam has been around for 14 centuries: 1,400 years. Nothing is different except the time in which the fighting, killing and destruction are taking place.
Eliminating ISIL will not eliminate the problem. Nor will eradicating Boko Haram. Neither will taking out all the others. As long as the pages of the Koran and the Hadith are recited and endorsed by those who wish to dominate the world, the hate will continue and so will the violence.
Islam understands only one thing: strength. That is the one thing the U.S. under Barack Obama lacks most. It is something the West is afraid to incorporate into its international strategies because it is so afraid of offending Muslims.
What about beheading journalists who are only doing their jobs? Is that not offensive? What about raping women and children and turning them into sex slaves? Why does that not fit into the category of being offensive? Why is killing Christians at will and burning their churches less offensive than a YouTube video that satirizes Islam?
Will someone please explain how the fact that most of the chaos throughout the world in the last generation has been perpetuated by Islamic jihadists is not offensive?
When the world went to war against Adolph Hitler, most of the planet was at war with Germany. Media, diplomats and the citizens of most Western nations made up their minds to eliminate the primary sources of violence and aggression, not the various factions that were elements of the primary problem. D-Day was the answer and, in the end, it solved the problem.
How then is violent Islam any different? The world needs to make up its mind that another D-Day is needed to combat Islam. Islamists will continue to hate, but they also respects strength and are pragmatic enough to know when they cannot compete against a stronger enemy.
The time has come stop pussyfooting and dancing around the real problem, which is Islam. In the process of confronting that ideology, we will also eliminate the likes of ISIL, Boko Haram and all the others who dare to challenge the peace of the world in the name of Allah.
