WASHINGTON, November 4, 2017 — James Madison, the father of our Constitution, warned against what he and his fellow Founders called factionalism. That is 18th century speak for party politics.
“By faction,” wrote Madison in Federalist #10, “I understand a number of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or a minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adversed to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community.”
In other words, political parties are a lot like the inner-city gangs of Chicago; groups seeking to plunder on behalf of those who sustain the power of its ruling elites.
A community organizing gang leader’s factionalism
And no one employed this gang power better than President Obama, who happened to learn quite a bit during his tenure as a Chicago gang leader… I mean, community organizer.
Under his tenure as the nation’s chief executive, the IRS became a weapon against his domestic political enemies. America’s deep-state operatives collected the email and cellphone communications of 110 million Americans under his PRISIM program, an unprecedented violation of a nation’s unalienable right against the government’s unreasonable search and seizure.
We have discovered that the bureaucratic apparatus in Washington cannot run the nation’s health care system, for veterans or civilians, but is quite efficient when it comes to intimidation. Especially intimidation aimed at those not Democrats.
Feeling the Bern
Vermont’s Senator Bernie Sanders may have run as a Democrat in that party’s 2016 presidential primaries, but he was an outsider and independent democratic socialist.
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and crony capitalists are joined at the hip. Like all the conventional (“establishment”) crony corporatists in both political parties.
And crony capitalist cash, which has lost its influence over the thinking of voting Americans, is most certainly influential in determining who rules America’s two ruling political parties.
According to former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile:
In exchange for “raising money and investing in the DNC, Hillary [Clinton] would control the party’s finances, strategy, and the money raised. Her campaign had the right of refusal of who would be the party communications director, and it would make final decisions on all the other staff. The DNC also was required to consult with the campaign about all other staffing, budgeting, data, analytics, and mailings,” she wrote in her book “Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns That Put Donald Trump in the White House.”
That control turned the Democratic Party into Hillary Clinton’s personal plaything, guaranteeing her nomination as her party’s candidate for president.
Bernie Sanders got the shaft.
“If the fight had been fair,” wrote Brazile, “one campaign would not have control of the party before the voters had decided which one they wanted to lead.”
Lincoln’s pathetic progeny
The Republican Party is equally corrupt, but nowhere near as organized in its war against the “consent of the governed.” Its corruption comes in the form of cowardice.
Republican leaders are so afraid of making a clean break from their Teddy Roosevelt, century-plus past, they’re incapable of repealing one of the greatest evils to befall a so-called free people: dictatorial Obamacare.
But the GOP’s disorganization undermined all efforts to deny outsider Donald Trump the party’s presidential nomination. Republican populist outsider Trump triumphed where outsider Democrat socialist Bernie Sanders failed.
And Trump’s election as the president continues to infuriate the leaders of Americas’ dying monuments to factionalism.
More than two centuries after the founding of our nation, Americans agree with Madison’s assessment of factionalism and understand its danger “to the rights of other citizens… and aggregate interests of the community.”
