WASHINGTON, January 20, 2018.: President Obama has taught his children well. As the #ReleaseTheMemo trend continues on social media, Democrats have been employing the abstract-distract method to move America’s attention from the illegal actions of the Obama Administration in the quest to shut down the Trump candidacy, and now, the presidency.
The “memo” is the confidential four-page document by House Republicans, led by Intelligence Committee chair Devin Nunes. The memo questions whether the FBI and Justice Department misused information in the dossier compiled by British intelligence expert Christopher Steele in order to obtain FISA warrants to tap and record Trump administration phone calls.
Senators who have read the memo say it is shocking.
Dicky Durbin’s Distraction
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) accused President Donald Trump of referring to African countries as ‘shitholes.’ It allegedly happened during a closed-door meeting that they both attended.
Durbin told reporters that what Trump said was “hate-filled, vile and racist.” Then adding that “the most disheartening thing to me is my belief that that was the first-time words that hateful had been spoken in the Oval Office of the White House.”
There’s just one problem with Durbin’s claims: He has a history of making up statements from private White House meetings.
In 2013, Politico reported:
“In a ‘negotiation’ meeting with the president, one GOP House Leader told [President Barack Obama]: ‘I cannot even stand to look at you,’”
Durbin then put it on his Facebook Page.
Asked about the post in the White House daily briefing, press secretary Jay Carney said he checked with a participant of the meeting in question.
“I looked into this and spoke with somebody who was in that meeting and it did not happen,” Carney said.
Politico added that Durbin’s office “had no comment on the post and offered no further details.”
“Sen. Durbin’s accusation is a serious one, and it appears to have been invented out of thin air,” said Brendan Buck, spokesman for then-House Speaker John Boehner. “The senator should disclose who told him this account of events, retract his reckless allegation immediately, and apologize.”
Yet when asked if he believed Durbin, Chuck Schumer told late night liberal host Stephen Colbert:
“Do you have any doubts that Sen. Durbin is telling the truth when he says that the president said, repeatedly, that, ‘why do we let in people from these shithole countries?’ ” Colbert asked.
“I have no doubts,” Schumer replied. “First, Donald Trump has lied so many times, it’s hard to believe him on anything, let alone this.”
“But second, I’ve known Dick Durbin for 35 years, he was my roommate for 20 years … he is one of the most honorable people I’ve met. I have never know him to prevaricate, to lie,” he said.
“I totally believe Dick Durbin, and I think most Americans do, too.”
Well, maybe not all, Mr. Schumer. Actually only the irrational 48% on the left.
The President’s denial
Trump denied the claims on Friday, tweeting:
The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made – a big setback for DACA!

Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings – unfortunately, no trust!

2013 Government Shutdown
During the last Government shutdown in 2013, the issue was Obamacare. The President denied shut down the national mall, refusing entrance to the memorials to our nation’s Vets. Today, knowing that the Woman’s March was to be at the mall, the President left the public area open to the public protest, many there protesting the president.
During the shutdown, approximately 800,000 federal employees were under indefinite furlough. Another 1.3 million were to report to work without known payment dates. Only those government services deemed “excepted” under the Antideficiency Act were continued.
Those employees deemed “excepted” continued to report to work. The 16-day-long shutdown of October 2013 was the third-longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
In 2013, a “funding-gap” occurred when two chambers of Congress failed to agree to an appropriations continuing resolution. Then it was about Obamacare. The Republican-led House of Representatives offered several continuing resolutions with language delaying or defunding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly known as “Obamacare”).
The Democratic-led Senate passed several amended continuing resolutions for maintaining funding at then-current sequestration levels with no additional conditions. Political fights over this and other issues between the House on one side and President Barack Obama and the Senate on the other led to a budget impasse which threatened massive disruption.
The 2018 Schumer Shutdown about illegal immigration
The Schumer Shutdown is just the latest page in the Obama Administration manual on weaponizing politics. Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, have manufactured the 2018 Shutdown, hurting Americans in favor or illegal aliens.
The Democrats do not care about the Dreamers. The Dreamer Deal should not be a budget line item. The issue should not even be on the table at this time.
By shutting down the government in favor of illegal immigrants, Democrats are deferring pay to 1.3 million active military personnel, shutting down the National Zoo and Smithsonian museums and the IRS doors will close.
The ongoing Democrat Harassment of Donald J. Trump
It is simply the only way the Democrats can continue to harass President Trump. But the solution Republicans want includes shutting down chain migration and building the wall to stem the tide of illegals coming into the country.
Because unless we do those things, we will just be arguing this issue again, and in the near future.
Democrats are demanding that all illegals (some estimate six-eight million, including the Dreamers) be given blanket amnesty. If they had really cared about the Dreamers, they would have taken care of this, legally, under Obama.
The only purpose this serves is to take steps to increase Democrat voter rolls by a continuing stream of illegal aliens magically transformed into “new Americans” by the flick of the liberal wand.
The DACA discussion will live for another day. The discussion is much bigger than just letting the ‘dreamers’ stay, the President has said he wants to find a solution. Seniors will still get their Social Security checks delivered by the mail and court systems will remain open.
But only the Democrats can stop the shutdown and then work to create cohesive legislative reform that addresses the Dreamers while moving those who are here illegally, after illegally crossing our borders, out of the country.
And laws that are not written for the sole purpose of increasing Democrat voters.
