CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 2, 2015 — During his commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy, President Obama stunned conservative media, and probably many of the graduates, when he declared that climate change is the single worst threat to civilization today.
Obama’s message is not new. It has been reiterated time and again by other members of his administration, including Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry.
Despite the “shock and awe” of conservatives who cannot believe Obama made his claim with a straight face, the president continues to go about his business as usual in his narcissistic fog.
Enter author Ralph H. Sidway, an Orthodox Christian researcher. His new book is Facing Islam: What the Ancient Church has to say about the Religion of Muhammad. It challenges Obama by using the prophet Muhammad’s own words from the Koran.
Sidway pursues his premise by stepping back in time with direct quotes from Islam’s holiest book. In the process, he demonstrates that ISIS is indeed Islam in its purest form, another fact Obama resolutely denies.
To emphasize his point, Sidway first takes passages from the Meccan period of Muhammad’s life when the prophet was at peace with the world. The verses are short, but clearly non-violent:
50:45. “We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad) are not a tyrant over them (to force them to Belief). But warn by the Qur’an, him who fears My Threat.
109:1. Say: “O Al-Kafirun (disbelievers)!
109:2. “I worship not that which you worship,
109:3. “Nor will you worship that which I worship.
109:4. “And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping.
109:5. “Nor will you worship that which I worship.
109:6. “To you be your religion, and to me my religion (Islam).”
If that is the message of the Koran, Obama sounds like the intellectual giant he claims to be by highlighting the “true Islam.”
Next Sidway takes us to Medina, where Islam is now a full-fledged religion and where the prophet’s thoughts are changing radically.
9:5. “Then when the Sacred Months have passed, then kill the Mushrikun (unbelievers) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush …
8:39. “And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism, i.e., worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone …
8:12 “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes.”
Sidway cites other examples, but these are enough to support the gist of his message.
Sidway asks, “Wait … What’s this? Raids on caravans? More raids on different tribes? Battle after battle … And new revelations endorsing this, killing the vanquished, deceit and treachery, taking sex slaves and booty! Muhammad ordering the beheading of hundreds of men from the Bani Quraiza! The Muslims cheering and beheading them in huge groups. Muhammad himself setting the chief example! All the blood and carnage … Unbelievable! It’s like ISIS times twenty!’”
When Sidway returns to the 21st century, he proposes a simple, honest premise. “There is no alternate blame to be laid on some shift in the timeline, nor on the forces of nature or even ‘human-caused global warming.’
“The causes of “violent extremism — Alas! — are now clear to us after seeing it with our own eyes. It is Muhammad himself who set all this in motion, fourteen centuries ago.”
Fourteen hundred years ago there was no man-made climate change, yet violent extremism toward non-Muslims was rampant. Yet Obama insists that beheadings, kidnappings, slavery and violence are a contemporary problem.
Not according to the Koran, Mr. President.
These are all things perpetuated by the prophet of Islam himself. You cannot get any more Islamic than that. The so-called “extremists” are merely following the example set out by Muhammad.
As Sidway points out, the true cause of Islam’s war against the world is its very own prophet and the words he used in the Koran.
Climate had nothing do with it other than being a natural part of the environment in which the Islamic movement arose. Islam initially appealed to the poor, the downtrodden and the so-called “victims” of society amid the harsh realities of burning and desolate desert sands. It was designed that way to “justify” its existence.
No amount of sea level change, receding glaciers or unseasonal cold will alter that. Statistically, Sidway points out that the data shows a “global warming pause” for nearly 20 years.
It is time for Obama to get serious, but we have been saying that since 2008.
