WASHINGTON: American showman P.T. Barnum may not have said it, but the quote attributed to him is true none the less, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” Since the fall of the Soviet Union on January 1, 1991, it’s been harder and harder for rational people to believe in the virtues of socialism, totalitarian or democratic-authoritarian. Until the Millenial suckers for socialism, and their leader Ocasio-Cortez took the stage. Because there is a Democrat Socialist sucker born every minute.
All socialism, including a democrat socialist, is authoritarian
I associate the term authoritarian with the democratic socialist avatar. Why? Because you cannot redistribute the property of others without force.
This escapes the attention of that large swath of suckers who supported democrat socialist authoritarian Bernie Sanders in the presidential election of 2016.
Similarly, it also applies to the champions of today’s wild-eyed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Ocasio-Cortez is the democrat socialist currently seeking to serve as the representative of New York’s 14th congressional district.
These socialist candidates present their seemingly benign Utopian dreams as though the disaster currently taking place in South America in no way presents a warning to America’s gullible and mollycoddled Millennials.
Millennial suckers for socialism = Venezuela’s inconvenient truth
Venezuela’s democratic-socialist strongman, Nicolas Maduro, recently devalued his nation’s currency by 95%. Meaning what little scraps remain of his starving people’s meager savings are gone. Economists insist the move will increase Venezuela’s inflation rate, which currently stands at a staggering 1 million percent.
1 MILLION PERCENT!
Oh, and the Center for Strategic & International Studies says that since 1998, the year democratic socialist Hugo Chavez became his nation’s 45th president, Venezuela’s poverty rate climbed from 55 to 90 percent.
Restitution from the democrat socialist thief
But here’s the best for last.
US oil producer ConocoPhillips won a $2 billion settlement against Venezuela in an international court in response to the democratic socialist state’s seizure of Conoco’s oil facilities a decade ago. Venezuela’s state-owned energy firm PDVSA was to pay Conoco $500 million over the next three months.
PDVSA has so far failed to cough up the cash. Thus resulting in Conoco’s seizure of Venezuelan oil facilities around the Caribbean.
As democratic socialist Venezuela sinks into an existential abyss, capitalist ConocoPhillips is utilizing Venezuela’s oil rigs to decrease America’s energy dependence and expand our role as the planet’s leading oil producer.
Payback is a… well, you know.
And as Venezuela’s inflation climbs, a growing number of its citizens seek the financial haven of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
But as the Seattle Times reported back in Dec. 2017:
“One Venezuelan bitcoin miner who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal said authorities demanded he pay them $20,000 as a bribe but settled on taking 11 of his 20-some mining machines instead. He said the same officials now sometimes contact him seeking technical advice. Others interviewed for this story described being extorted by authorities who asked to be paid in bitcoin.”
You see, socialism in all its incarnations is by necessity parasitical.
The reason is obvious to all but the millennial suckers for socialism. Socialism produces nothing. Like the lowly street thug, it lacks imagination and must rely on the bludgeon and gun to survive. That is, until, in the words of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, it “runs out of other people’s money.”
As a result of socialism, Venezuela has nearly reached that point.
During the last presidential election, Bernie Sanders posted a portion of an op-ed piece to his campaign website. It was taken from New Hampshire’s Valley News:
“These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina.” – Bernie Sanders.
With the Trump economy busily humming in the background, you would have to be dead from the neck up to believe that. Or count yourself a university-educated rube and sucker among Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s naïve Millennials.
