Congress won’t impeach the president; should it?

Just because Congress won't impeach Obama doesn't mean it shouldn't. Should it?

WASHINGTON, Nov. 2, 2015 — Delegates attending the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia approved the final proposals of the Committee on Postponed Matters on Sept. 8, 1787. They agreed that In extreme situations, the House of Representatives could impeach the president; if convicted by the Senate, the president would be removed from office. According to Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, “The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

There apparently was no measure to take against a rogue president who seeks to conquer the American citizen.

Hillary’s testimony confirms President Obama’s Benghazi deception

The provision to protect America from an overreaching executive stemmed from a need to address serious abuses of power suffered at the hands of British authorities under British law. Hence the Constitution gives Congress the ability to fire a president before his term ends.

Only two presidents have been impeached: Andrew Johnson and William Jefferson Clinton. Both were acquitted by the Senate.

President Obama’s critics periodically suggest that Congress should impeach him. While there is virtually no chance this will happen, there remains the question of whether there are grounds to impeach him. If Congress were filled with virtuous men and women who were serious about defending liberty and the Constitution, could they impeach Obama?

The Justice Department has failed to investigate the details surrounding the Obama Administration’s job offer to Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestack in exchange for agreeing not to challenge Sen. Arlen Specter in a Democratic primary. The Justice Department has also refused to investigate charges of black-on-white racism.

This president seized control of GM and Chrysler without proper authorization from Congress. He fired whistle-blower Gerald Walpin for doing his job as the inspector-general in charge of investigating corruption, waste and fraud in government programs.

The Obama administration collected data on Americans who opposed healthcare reform and, through an Obama campaign website, collected data on Americans who disagreed with the administration.

Obama placed the U.S. Census Bureau under the supervision of the White House chief of staff; it is by law the Department of Commerce’s responsibility.

Obama’s Justice Department smuggled weapons into Mexico, in a program that the president approved and funded. He manipulated job numbers by hiring and rehiring census workers.

He created false districts and assigned stimulus funds to those districts. He violated federal privacy laws by releasing private tax details to the public when attacking Koch Industries.

From JFK to Obama: 50 years of overrated Democrats

He created a taxpayer-funded position, Director of Progressive Media and Online Response, to promote his incumbent candidacy, in violation of the Hatch Act. And he filmed a campaign ad in the White House in violation of FEC regulations.

He violated a “clear and unambiguous” law when he released five Guantanamo Bay detainees in exchange for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

Obama has a penchant for upholding laws he likes and ignoring those he dislikes, such as the Defense of Marriage Act. He has violated numerous immigration laws. He failed to hold Hillary Clinton responsible for her role in the Benghazi fiasco, which resulted in the death of four Americans.

The IRS was turned loose on the Tea Party and other conservative groups before the 2012 presidential elections.

Obama appointed 24-plus federal agency czars without the advice and consent of the Senate, a violation of Article II, Section 2; he exposed the identity and methods of operation of a Navy SEALs team, which is illegal. A president is forbidden to reveal classified military secrets (Article II, Section 3).

He unilaterally issued new exemptions to the immigration restrictions law that barred certain asylum-seekers and refugees who provided “limited material support” to terrorists. He also issued a memorandum telling states that they could waive the work requirement for welfare recipients, thereby altering the 1996 welfare reform law. He also took over the nation’s student loan business.

President Obama used NLRB to dictate to a business where it can do business (Boeing Dreamliner Plant) when he had no constitutional authority to do so.

And yet, Barack Obama will never face impeachment because it would probably precipitate a race war within the borders of the United States. No, appeasement appears to be an easier pill to swallow for establishment Republicans than standing up for what’s right and just.

Many Republicans fear being called racists. Some might say that the Republicans’ refusal to take this president on, especially the Republican-controlled Senate, makes them partially responsible for helping to create this out-of-control president.

People are looking back to Germany and what happened to its citizens when they failed to stop one of their charismatic and out-of-control leaders dead in his tracks. Confiscation of guns, restrictions of rights, concentration camps and gas chambers followed. Public executions were random and brutal.

Many do not think it could happen in the United States, but they are wrong. Don’t close your eyes on this president, not for one second. If only we had virtuous men in office we would have no concerns for our liberties and safety. Only in a perfect world.

Power is not alluring to pure minds” — Thomas Jefferson
