WASHINGTON. No wonder many Capitol Hill Republicans hate President Donald Trump. He’s not your typical Republican. That’s to say, he doesn’t roll over and play dead when Democrats and their hip-pocket pals in the fake-news media come after him. In fact, he relishes a good fight. One where he gives better than he gets. And so does his legal team. In fact, Trump’s lawyer, White House counsel, Pat Cipollone, has essentially told the Democrats’ Impeachment Partygoers to drop dead.
Meanwhile, heedless Congressional Democrats continue to gear up for pointless impeachment inquiries. They plan to center these primarily closed-door sessions on Trump’s legitimate conversation with Ukraine’s head of state. But the country seems more interested in the subject of that conversation.
Specifically, they want to know more about how former Vice President Joe Biden’s pressured that nation’s former leader to fire his chief prosecutor. That’s the man who, until his firing, was investigating Ukrainian oil and gas company Burisma Holdings. A firm from which Biden’s son Hunter received $50,000 a month as a board member.
Joe Biden’s Ukraine trouble is Elizabeth Warren’s triumph
As a result, Joe Biden’s standing among Democratic voters has dropped considerably thanks to Trump’s conversation and impeachment moves by House Democrats that only serve to remind Americans of past Obama administration corruption.
As of today, it appears faux Native American Elizabeth Warren is now the likely presidential nominee of her party. That prospect is as inviting to Trump as was that fateful encounter by remnants of the US 7th Cavalry when confronting the ghost-dancing Sioux at Wounded Knee.
To that end, Trump sounded a bugle call to rally his troops for the fight to come. Its most strident blast came in the form of a letter penned by Trump’s lawyer, White House Counsel Pat A. Cipollone.
Cipollone pointedly observed that House Democrats…
“… have denied the President the right to cross-examine witnesses, to call witnesses, to receive transcripts of testimony, to have access to evidence, to have counsel present, and many other basic rights guaranteed to all Americans. You have conducted your proceedings in secret. You have violated civil liberties and the separation of powers by threatening Executive Branch officials, claiming that you will seek to punish those who exercise fundamental constitutional rights and prerogatives. All of this violates the Constitution, the rule of law, and every past precedent. Never before in our history has the House of Representatives – under the control of either political party – taken the American people down the dangerous path you seem determined to pursue.
What explains these unprecedented actions by Democrats? Cipollone answers that question as well:
“Put simply, you seek to overturn the results of the 2016 election and deprive the American people of the President they have freely chosen.”
Pointing to the motive for this crime, Trump’s lawyer quotes Texas Democrat, Rep. Al Green:
“I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach the president, he will get re-elected.”
Democrats circle the wagons
Biden’s fall in the polls has occurred as the likely nominee carrying the heavy burden of having to sell dead-end socialism to self-respecting Americans with a strong work ethic. That’s a particularly hard sell in a time when the nation’s employment picture continues to brighten as the economy grows under Donald Trump.
Knowing the letter would be widely circulated, Pat Cipollone used the House Democrat’s impeachment endeavor as a platform to get some free political advertising for his refreshingly combative Republican client:
“The American people elected him [President Trump] to do this job, and he remains focused on fulfilling his promises to the American people. He has important work that he must continue on his behalf, both at home and around the world, including continuing strong economic growth… negotiating trade deals, fixing our broken immigration system…”
But Trump’s lawyer is not the only one helping the president to fight back against the Democrats’ naked power grab. We have yet to see the findings of DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz. Not to mention even more findings likely to come from that DOJ crime-fighting duo, Attorney General William Barr and US Attorney John Durham.
Their tandem investigations into the origins of the Obama administration’s domestic spying operation against Trump’s 2016 campaign will only serve to underscore the president’s contention. And that of White House Counsel Pat Cipollone. Specifically, their insistence that the current Democrat impeachment push is a continuation of the Russia hoax by other means.
Any good news?
The good news for Donald Trump and Pat Cipollone is this. The impeachment war cries now emanating from the halls of Congress will likely result in unintended consequences. This venture’s sheer partisan insanity will almost certainly have one unintended consequence. It may ironically force vulnerable members of Elizabeth Warren’s Democratic tribe to circle the wagons in 2020.
