WASHINGTON, November 9, 2017 – We’ve been watching, hearing and reading the most unbelievable “analysis” imaginable with regard to the this past Tuesday’s off-year election results in New Jersey and Virginia.
Democrats, and their legion of media flacks, have opined again and again this year that each and every special election to fill vacated House seats were crucial “referendums” on the Presidency of Donald Trump, often before Trump had even begun to warm his new Oval Office seat.
Happily, again and again, each Democrat candidate went down to defeat against a superior Republican candidate, frustrating the Democrats and the drive-by media alike, as both were looking for a way – any way – to claim that “momentum had shifted” toward the Democrats and/or that the electorate was already repudiating Trump’s barely-started presidency.
Finally, these seasoned professional liars got their chance as election results rolled in Tuesday night. Democrat slates were “overwhelmingly” the winners in this pair of statewide contests, offering convincing “proof” that voters in New Jersey and Virginia, and therefore, the entire nation itself, had dramatically and convincingly repudiated Donald Trump and the entire GOP.
As Col. Potter of TV’s venerable classic “M*A*S*H” used to say, “Horse hockey.”
Let’s take a look at the facts on the ground in Virginia and New Jersey. Let’s also take a broader look at what we have, for years, identified as America’s real immigration problem.
After a brief interruption by outgoing Republican governor Chris Christie, New Jersey is simply reverting to form by voting in a Democrat slate, guaranteeing a resumption of that state’s slide toward the inevitable fiscal fate of other traditional Democrat cesspits like Connecticut, Illinois and Puerto Rico: eventual bankruptcy. This is a trend, all right, but New Jersey’s fiscal collapse was pre-ordained long before anyone heard of Donald Trump.
As for the wretched Commonwealth of Virginia – the current home, alas, of this columnist – Tuesday’s results, including a Democrat sweep of the State House as well as an apparent, albeit thin, incoming liberal majority in the state’s House of Delegates.
Yet this, too, is no surprise. Virginia’s current Corrupt-o-crate governor Terry McAuliffe, personally loaded the voter rolls with “pardoned” felons in 2016, the better to enhance the chances of Her Hillaryness to capture this once red state.
This kind of political kleptocracy could only be expected from McAuliffe, whose previous (and continuing) claim to fame is based on his longtime career as the Clintonistas’ favorite money bundler. (Even as the media continues to ignore his likely complicity in 2016 election year shenanigans, for which he’s currently under investigation.)
Worse than McAuliffe, however, has been the gradual drift of once rock-solid red Virginia into “purple” state status over the last several elections. You read it first here: This seemingly inexorable drift hasn’t marked any kind of “sea change” in longtime Virginia attitudes at all.
Instead, in Virginia, the state’s increasingly blue drift is the result of an invisible but damaging immigration pattern we’ve been warning readers about for years: The mass exodus of over-taxed blue state residents moving into more taxpayer-friendly red states, bringing their disastrous voting habits along with them.
This is America’s real immigration problem, and the results have been easy to see. In the 1990s, Clinton and Gore stealthily flooded once stoutly Republican California with South of the Border immigrants guaranteed to vote Democrat once naturalized (or not). As a result, the inexorably rising state tax burden, relentlessly hiked by Democrats to buy these new votes with “free” goodies, began to drive out current businesses and longtime residents. These California refugees began to flood into adjacent or nearby red states like Nevada, Arizona and Colorado.
Now that California is entirely controlled by socialists, this exodus has only increased. The current result is that California is entirely lost to the Republicans as the vanishing middle class in that state leaves only wealthy Silicon Valley Democrats and the extremely impoverished in charge.
California’s essentially all-Democrat legislature and governorship, supported by virtue-signaling Silicon Valley robber barons, continuously hike taxes to stratospheric levels to support “underprivileged minorities” with broadly-based “free lunch”-style giveaways.
As corporations and much of the middle class has fled this rolling disaster en masse, they’ve brought their reliably left-wing voting patterns to other states we’ve just mentioned. That’s a major reason why once solid-red Colorado has become reliably purple heading for mostly blue. Ditto Nevada, with Arizona perhaps next on the immigrant list. Immigrants, that is, coming in from California, most of whom are actually U.S. citizens, which is why this strange “immigration” pattern is so easily ignored.
We’ve seen similar political transformations played out in “Live Free or Die” New Hampshire. The once highly conservative Granite State has been flooded to blue by Taxachusetts residents fleeing the Bay State’s onerous tax burden. Ditto North Carolina, which is teetering on the purple-to-blue edge as its once reliably conservative voter rolls are swamped by often government pensioned retirees hailing from New Jersey and New York.
Virginia is now in a similar process of red-to-blue state conversion. That’s due to the increasing flood of Federal government workers choosing to flee the high tax jurisdictions of the District of Columbia and the People’s Republic of Maryland for the less expensive digs and taxes across the Potomac.
The situation has been worsened as newly employed govies and Federal contractors move from other less expensive parts of the country to the Commonwealth where living expenses, while high, are sharply lower than those in Maryland and D.C. Far from being drained, the Federal government’s Swamp has now engulfed the bulk of Northern Virginia.
Problem is, aside from the military, pretty much the entirety of the Federal government workforce consists of genetic Democrats, something that’s held true stretching back to Roosevelt’s “New Deal” politics of the 1930s. Once again, it’s no surprise that Washington’s swelling Virginia suburbs are now voting Democrat-leftist, swamping traditional Virginia Republican voters.
In other words, what’s happened in New Jersey, Virginia and elsewhere is not so much a political groundswell against Trump and/or the Republicans as it is the continuation of a pattern in which a massive influx of genetic Democrat voters swarm into comfortably red states and permanently alter state voting patterns, turning them blue, essentially against their will.
