WASHINGTON. Evolving from suffragette crusade for equal legal and property rights in the late 18thand early 19thcentury, the journey toward what we call feminism coalesced around voting rights. It reached peak influence near the end of the 19th century. In America, the original objectives of these movements coalesced into law in the first part of the 20th century. However, modern feminism, the current century’s radicalized version of women’s drive for equal rights, has become a radical leftist cult. Its leaders have transformed the controversial issue of abortion into the centerpiece of what passes for modern feminism.
The origins and effects of early feminism
Early feminists urged Western countries and societies to accept women as being just as capable and important to society’s development and advancement as men. Early feminists portrayed women as the intellectual and moral equals of men and just as crucial to the health and prosperity of mankind.
It was a genuine revolution in social thinking whose goal was the redefining of human rights and the meaning of equality.
Countries embracing this brand of feminism gained an incredible economic advantage in the latter half of the twentieth century. By allowing women to join large business partnerships and governing bodies nationally and internationally such countries broadened their influence and outreach. And arguably, their openness to women’s equality in society and the workplace attracted the best and brightest women from other countries whose societies held them back.
The benefits of Gender Equality
Companies and governments alike have benefited ever since from the broader and more inclusive reach they’ve gained as a result of embracing gender equality.
Participatory democracy and inclusivity have increased as well, giving rise to the growth of peaceful societies and sustainable development.
The feminist movement simultaneously helped alter to some extent the traditional thrust of international diplomacy in Western nations from its nearly exclusive focus on military intervention, colonialism, and patriarchal influence. As women gained power and influence, they helped promote instead the idea of establishing more broadly based societies that incorporate more acceptance, more diversity, and greater benevolence into their world view.
Modern feminism goes off the rails
Unfortunately, as can happen with almost every revolutionary social change, the modern feminism has been captured and radicalized by the American left. The left customarily takes over such positive movements by force, ousts incumbent leadership. The leftists then “fundamentally transform” these movements into ideological tools geared toward promoting their Marxist aims rather than the movements’ original goals.
And that’s exactly what happened to modern feminism in America in the latter half of the twentieth century. It has been transformed into a key, divisive element of left-wing extremism. Even worse, today’s edition of this arguably fake feminism thrives on two highly dubious and divisive aims. Hatred of men, and an embrace of abortion on demand, anytime, anywhere.
What now passes for modern feminism promotes the unproven notion that women are superior to men in every way. It’s a concept that’s just as absurd as the equal and opposite attitudes men expressed toward women in earlier centuries. Ignoring this completely, today’s fake feminists also savagely shame women who embrace the maternal and “feminine” aspects of womanhood, which under genuine feminism is actually their individual choice, not someone else’s.
Gender strengths and weaknesses complement. They don’t need to exclude.
Logically, it is clear that both women and men are and should be respected equally. Both women and men should also continue to embrace the sensible goal of equality in opportunity, not equality in outcome, another Marxist notion today’s radical feminism publicly embraces.
In addition, both women and men, not just one gender or the other, have complementary strengths. Traditional male virtues include strength, intellect, virtue, and the desire to overturn unjust laws, governments, and rulers. The writings of Jordan Peterson brilliantly illustrate this argument, rejecting radical feminists who say that an exclusively male “patriarchy” is still unlawfully and unjustly ingrained in modern society.
Women, by nature, generally embody the virtues of motherliness (nurturing), adaptability, and tenacity. Being a female in the workplace demands strong determination, perseverance, and confidence. Being family oriented will damage credibility in the workplace. On the other hand, the active participation of women in the workplace can frequently improve the ability of departments and committees to achieve more collegiality and greater consensus.
Twisted leftist ideologies promote gender hatred and promote an increasingly divided society
Today’s younger generations are constantly indoctrinated by left-wing teachers and professors to believe in male domination. That men still dominate our economy, our corporations, our entertainment industry, and nearly everything else. However, the evidence to support these claims is frequently wanting.
Yes, it is frequently true that the richest and wealthiest individuals in the world are men. It is also true that men make up the largest proportion of high officials of successful business industries. And that male drive and ambition in the past have motivated and implemented the building America’s infrastructure.
This strong infrastructure allows us to continuously invest and grow in economically prosperous projects and candidly tackle globally-threatening crises. It is largely men who take on these risks. Other men devote their lives to the country’s betterment and defense. Today, women are joining them in the military as well.
On the whole, demonstrating loyalty to their country, a key characteristic Aristotle would have enshrined.
Trashing men and abortion: The cult of modern feminism
Even so, radical modern feminism continues to promote hatred toward the overwhelmingly positive societal contributions of men. They have also elevated their objective away from female equality. Now equality is the aggressive promotion of abortion, the termination of an unborn baby.
Abortion that they conveniently disguise as a “woman’s right to choose.” But the choice they emphasize is death, not life.
In 2019, they and their supporters wish to extend that “right” to terminate an unwanted child. Even after it has been born.
This is otherwise known as a homicide. And it is an astonishingly bold and tragic development. Equating what has become a cult of death with the notions of “personal freedom” and “empowerment.”
It seems the left seeks to give power and authority to women by portraying them to be weak. Yet at the same time, the left portrays women as all-powerful, superior to men. This illogical scheme is proving tragically effective in rising generations where feelings and victimhood take precedence over logic and intellectual debate.
It is time for all sensible Americans to call for a return to justice and respect in our approach to gender equality. We should all enjoy equal opportunities. But equal outcomes can never be the goal, as this will always wrongly elevate the privilege of one group over the other as decreed by those in power.
