WASHINGTON. Back in the day, so the story goes, a butcher attempting to cheat his patrons would add additional weight (and therefore cost) to their purchase of beef or chicken. He’d do it with a simple trick. He would press his thumb on the scale. Today, the question before the nation is whether America’s alphabet soup intelligence services – specifically a corrupt FBI and CIA – put their thumbs on the scales of American justice in an effort to distort it. Centered on the Russia collusion hoax, all this was allegedly done to support a highly dubious charge. Namely, that Donald J. Trump, the 2016 Republican presidential candidate, was a double agent working on behalf of Russia.
And so, US Attorney General William Barr told Bill Hemmer of Fox News:
“People have to find out what the government was doing during that period. If we’re worried about foreign influence, for the very same reason we should be worried about whether government officials abuse their power and put their thumb on the scale.”
Rooting out FBI corruption
Barr tapped US Attorney John Durham to discover whose thumbs distorted justice in the Russia collusion conspiracy hoax. Barr is the man behind investigations of FBI corruption at its Boston field office in the 1990s. He is also the man Janet Reno, President Bill Clinton’s attorney general, sent to unmask corrupt FBI special agents who did act as hit men for Irish gangster John “Whitey” Bulger’s Winter Hill Gang.
In to their book “Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI and a Devil’s Deal,” authors Dick Lehr and Gerald O’Neill say Durham’s investigation of FBI criminality brought necessary reforms to the agency through guideline revisions.
“Toughened in a bid to prevent a repeat of the Boston FBI scandal and to provide more thorough oversight, the new guidelines require the FBI to share information about its informants with federal prosecutors. Banned explicitly is the kind of socializing and gift giving that characterized the FBI’s dealings with [James “Whitey”] Bulger.”
When the FBI became the gangster
Perhaps remembering the notorious FBI-Bulger scandal, in August of last year, the FBI finally released a 71-page report (heavily redacted). It admitted anti-Trump dossier author Christopher Steele served as the Deep State agency’s paid asset. That is until his firing after the agency was able to uncover that Steele was leaking to the press. Not unlike so many other high-ranking and likely corrupt FBI officials.
FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe comes to immediately to mind.
“Gift giving” to shady characters may no longer involve your average American gangster. But the corrupt FBI had no qualms greasing the palms of a British spy turned coup plotter. The American public, at least, does not know how much the FBI paid Steele. Nor do we know what percentage cut he received from the $12.2 million the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton campaign paid his employer, sleazy opposition research firm Fusion GPS.
What we do know is Steele’s dossier proved the heaviest thumb distorting the scales of American justice in this case. It formed the basis for the issuing of highly questionable FISA court warrants. These warrants then allowed the FBI and US intelligence services to wage an unprecedented espionage operation against members of the Trump presidential campaign – at home and abroad.
Justice at last in this, the greatest American political scandal?
John Durham’s ongoing investigation into the origins of the Russia collusion hoax has already led to the nervous shaking of hands in Washington, D.C. Those attached to the heavy thumbs that distorted American justice. Whose owners are now likely to get exposed to greater scrutiny, and perhaps, prosecution as well.
Heavy thumbs like the ones attached to President Obama, his weaponized Deep State minions, the DNC, the Clinton presidential campaign, and a compliant, left-wing, fake-news media. In short, those self-important Deep State elites who designed this entire, failed beer hall putsch to “fundamentally transform America” into an oppressive, socialist one-party state.
