WASHINGTON: Why would Michael Cohen be given an oath? In taking it, he swears to tell the truth. That is, Cohen swears to tell the truth from now on. Because before today, he has not. I guess.
Cohen has a reputation for lying. So, you know he is a liar. However, he says he is not a liar. Though he admits, he has lied. Ergo, he will no longer lie—he promises– under oath, he promises.
Quite the rabbit hole of deception.
It would be easier for Alice to understand Wonderland than for a viewer of the hearings to understand what the Committee, some of the Congressmen, Cohen or attorney Lannie Davis think they will get from them.
A confessed liar being interrogated by people who have a national approval rating among voters as low as 5% in some polls.
Watching the Congressional hearings is like watching a magic show.
You can watch a magician on stage and swear you saw the pretty lady disappear or the rabbit appears from the hat.
However, in your heart, because you are not a child, you know that it is a trick.
With a wave of his wand, Michael Cohen has pulled the impeachment rabbit out of the hat. And the children of the House Intelligence Committee believe him. Imagine that.
The problem with Congress is there are too many children elected. Prime examples are everybody’s favorite Alexander “I’m the boss” Ocasio-Cortez:
and Rashida Tlaib, who said she was going to impeach the president, “we’re going to go in there and impeach the m*****f*****.”
Tlaib accused one committee member of being (get ready) of being a racist for introducing a black woman to the committee. To Tlaib, this black woman could only be a useful token friend of the President.
Cortez, in her genius for economics, asked Cohen about tax items on the President’s tax returns from 25 years before he was president. She did not smile so we assume she was serious.
However, then she is serious about her Green New Deal.
You know you are a liar, right?
As the proceedings moved on, the Republicans typically would spend most of the allotted 5 minutes pointing out the record of Michael Cohen has lied more than once under oath and now on the verge of going to prison for it. It was their way of saying: “There ain’t no rabbit.”
However, the Democrats almost without exception approached Cohen as if he were Paul (post-Saul) having just recovered from his jolted trauma from the Lord on the road to Damascus. So now, he would never (ever, ever, ever) lie before God or man.
To the Democrats Cohen had seen the light and if not God’s right-hand man certainly he is MSNBC’s and CNN’s.
In three hours, 7-10 A.M, CNN devoted 88% of its time to the Cohen hearings and 12 % to the Summit in Viet Nam. MSNBC spent 75% to 25% Cohen vs. Summit and Fox’s coverage was split approximately 50—50.
In a nutshell, the entire proceeding was entertaining because it was no more than an incoherent magic act with many of the players and much of the media (so-called) pretending to understand and believe a man who is on the verge of going to prison for lying.
And now Congress can go outside for recess. Who has the dodge ball?
