CHARLOTTE, NC: A funny thing happened en route to the White House. In 2016 opposition hatred and media panic determined that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin conspired to “fix” the election.
Now after two years of intense investigation and hundreds upon hundreds of depositions, the mainstream media and their allies are eating crow to the detriment of the American people.
In a column for The Federalist, David Harsanyi writes,
“The natural disposition of journalists — even opinion journalists — should be skepticism.”
Nothing could be more true for journalism in its purest sense. However, such “skepticism” needs to be unbiased accurate reporting without a preconceived agenda to prove one’s own prejudices.
Such motivations are where contemporary reporting has gone astray and left our country divided as never before.
David Harsanyi adds,
“While bad behavior from partisan sources should be expected, the lack of skepticism from self-appointed unbiased journalists has been unprecedented.”
Unfortunately, the idea of “gotcha journalism” exists in every facet of our lives today, including not only politics but sports, entertainment and every other aspect of modern day lifestyles.
Legendary investigative reporters such as Carl Bernstein, who made his reputation for the legitimate work he did in exposing Richard Nixon and Watergate, became little more than another biased hack journalist in his analysis and coverage for CNN during the Mueller investigation.
In fact, says David Harsanyi,
“CNN’s reporters…were some of the worst offenders. It got to a point where the network had to stop firing people for acts of journalistic malpractice.”
Ironically, the Democrats and their lapdog allies in the media have spent so much time and energy attempting to delegitimize Donald Trump that they may now have reached a point where they must re-elect him in order to impeach him.
The enemy of the Fourth Estate is the Fourth Estate
Harsanyi gets it right when he points out that the press has been its own worst enemy in the aftermath of the process.
“The New York Times and other outlets have hurt their ability to expose the actions of the powerful, because, even when they’re right, many Americans…have a difficult time believing them. And the powerful will certainly have a lot easier time dismissing them as tools of the Democratic Party,” continues Harsanyi.
Without accurate information for the public to ingest, the ultimate conclusion results in polarization to such a high level that the schism between opposing ideas widens to a degree where compromise becomes practically insurmountable.
Though they will never admit it, the media is largely responsible for creating that environment. For all the good Bernstein and his colleague Bob Woodward did in the Watergate saga, they also opened a Pandora’s box of faux journalism that gradually led to antagonist on-air showboating by the likes of reporters like Dan Rather and Sam Donaldson et al.
Such images were “sexy” for budding college journalism students. Youngsters who were already being brainwashed by the liberal world of academia.
Breaking the next Watergate
Today the appeal of breaking the next “Watergate” is rampant. Therefore it’s not unusual for reporters to have the story written without confirmation of fact. All they are seeking is testimonial validation of what they already think in order to give their story “credibility.”
So eager were Democrats and the media to “get” Donald Trump that daily reporting has been fraught with the “Little Boy Who Cried Wolf” speculation that often left them drooling at the prospect of finally getting the proof they wanted rather than needed.
“There were many false alarms. And every time a story was debunked, we were told that reporters, like all humans, make mistakes,” says Harsanyi. “Unlike everyone else, though, the many supposedly innocent blunders of mainstream reporters were almost always skewed in the same direction.”
It really doesn’t take much for most people to be Trump detractors. He is brash, egotistical, unconventional, often crude and certainly not a statesman most of the time.
On the other hand, Trump delivers.
Rather than merely talk about what he plans to accomplish, he actually achieves his goals in many cases. He is doing his best to keep his campaign promises. In essence, that’s all the American people want. It’s as simple as that.
What is amazing is that the opposition including the media are, and have been, so intent on demonizing the president, they have lost all semblance of reasonable counter-action.
Ultimately that will damage any legitimate challenge they can offer which will lead to four more years of frustration and “fake news.”
When you really boil it down, Harsanyi is correct when he says,
“You have free will. No one determines your vote but you.
In truth, Russia didn’t really ‘meddle’ in the election.”
Mainstream media has destroyed journalism as we know it and as it should be. The breakdown of media is a monumental travesty that we have never before witnessed. Not in a nation whose foundation was built upon the idea of “innocent until proven guilty.”
