A strategy to kill radical Islam

Written By | Jan 20, 2016

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20, 2016 – The most important task for the new president next January will be killing radical Islam.

One strategy describing how to do so was published last year in the George Mason University National Security Law Journal. From my article, “Trahison des Professeurs: The Critical Law of Armed Conflict Academy as an Islamist Fifth Column,” I distill and offer recommendations your predecessor adamantly and reflexively rejected.

Despite Obama’s feminization policies, troop reductions, and budget cuts, our military remains the world’s finest. Yet we are losing a war against a seventh-century ideology—radical Islam—bent on extending its caliphate to our soil and converting or killing us all.

Hugh Fitzgerald’s answer to Islamic terrorism

Although its fighters cannot defeat ours in battle, radical Islam has forced our withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan, raping and crucifying its way to control swaths of the Middle East.

How is this possible?

First, war-weary Americans, plagued with economic fears and reliant on their all-volunteer force, barely register far-away defeats. We have not suffered another domestic attack on the scale of 9/11, and we carry on feeling warmth in the security inherent to living in America.

Until we do, radical Islam seems someone else’s problem.

Second, we failed to lead a grand coalition of like-minded countries, especially the Sunni Arab states, for whom defeat of radical Islam is an imperative. An Islamic civil war rages and your predecessors in the office backed the wrong side, losing the trust of our allies.

Third, a Fifth Column in radical Islam’s order of battle undermines American political will from privileged positions within our society. Seditious elites in universities, the media, and government support radical Islam and want us to lose this war.

By vilifying the U.S. as an immoral nation in an illegal and unnecessary conflict against all Islam, rather than waging a just war against radical Islam, they wither our will to fight.

A government-media-academic complex of journalists, public officials and professors shapes popular views on national security. These opinion elites once reflected traditional American values. But 50 years of cultural and moral decay have befallen our nation.

Today journalists, public officials and academics eagerly provide combat power to radical Islam by attacking American perceptions of the justice of the war and with it America’s will to fight.

As you know, empathy for U.S. haters is in the mainstream media’s DNA. Liberal “journalists” trumpet civilian casualties of U.S. attacks but ignore Islamists’ use of those civilians as human shields. They hate Guantanamo but ignore ISIS’ mass prisoner beheadings. They want Americans to believe the U.S. uses illegal methods and means to fight radical Islam and abandon these methods and means or, better yet, surrender.

Examples of Democratic Party leaders’ politicized accusations of war crimes against U.S. troops abound as well. Sen. Richard Durbin equated U.S. interrogation of terrorists to crimes perpetrated by “Nazis, Soviets[,] or some mad regime.” Sen. Patrick Leahy demanded a truth commission akin to the South African investigation of apartheid to uncover “U.S. crimes” in the Middle East. And Secretary of State John Kerry has a 45-year history of casting aspersions on our military.

Another domestic battle is against those professors who misrepresent the law of war and demand release of captured terrorists.

These sympathizers degrade U.S. combat effectiveness and undermine American will by falsely claiming that jihad is a legitimate reaction to U.S. support of Israel, the U.S. commits aggression and other war crimes à la Nazi Germany and breeds terrorists in fighting and detaining radical Islam, and that U.S. civilian and military personnel should be prosecuted as war criminals.

Donald Trump, Islam and the populist revolution

Thus, liberals in the media, Congress, federal agencies and universities march as a fifth column, undermining our military and waging psychological warfare against Americans. They are the most important strategic weapon in the radical Islamist arsenal because their lies convince many that the battle against radical Islam is an immoral, unlawful, unwinnable war.

Radical Islam need not defeat our military to win.  It must only make Americans doubt the justice of the war and quit fighting.

In sum, radical Islamists fight a total and global war in alliance with an American fifth column, while we fight a limited air war against ISIS targets in the Middle East with few allies.

And so, we are losing.

Americans need to be awoken to the danger radical Islam poses.  Your predecessor and other far-left leaning politicians have Americans believing climate change is the 21st century’s existential threat.

That the American people, who vanquished Nazism and Communism within a 50-year span, are not confidently bent on total war against radical Islamism reveals the damage progressives have inflicted on our nation.

Numerous polls reflect that an alarming number U.S. Muslims believe radical Islamists should attack U.S. civilian targets. These polls, and the dangerous beliefs they reflect, must be acknowledged in our war against radical Islam.

Our next president must be willing to wage global and total war in every medium: air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace.

On offense, break Islamic will to fight for radical Islam. Make Muslims chose between coexistence or death.

Threaten and use force, including psychological warfare, against radical Islam. Attack radical Islamists by any and all means and methods at all places and times. Abandon wishful thinking, half-measures, and handwringing over the fate of mortal enemies.

Keep Guantanamo open, or if necessary reopen the facility, in order to detain, interrogate, prosecute, and, if sentenced to death, execute convicted radical Islamists.

Under the international legal principle of self-defense, imams that preach death to America and the actions of jihad are enemy combatants who may be targeted and killed by U.S. military and/or intelligence forces.

Radical Islamists need to recognize that collateral damage is a possibility towards which America is unrepentant.

Radical Islamists should live in terror knowing that each night, our U.S. Navy Seals may visit and deliver death.

Make our nation as ferocious as the one that defeated Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan even if it means great destruction and innumerable enemy casualties.

Deepen the concept of citizenship to include a duty to defend the nation nearly extinguished when the draft ended in 1973. Reintroduce a national service obligation.

Ensure that non-U.S. blood and treasure is spilled and spent too.

Fomenting Islamic civil war and supporting allies on the non-Islamist side is an essential force-multiplier, as is engaging Russia, India, Israel and NATO in this battle.

On defense—preventing radical Islam from breaking our will to fight—here’s what to do.

Depoliticize public life. Fixate on national survival.

Absent U.S. victory, arguments over gay marriage, abortion, guns and social welfare are moot. The Greatest Generation knew an Axis victory would radically remake post-war America in the image of the enemy.

In that total war, domestic opposition to war entry, aims, and conduct shrank to zero. Politicians rallied the people to fight and win, and the military ran the war as the people wanted it run—unrestrained.

The Islamic Civil War is America’s war now

So, too, would radical Islamist victory impose Sharia-based prescriptions every American, liberal or conservative, would hate.

Reconstitute civic virtues that during World War II bound the nation so tightly no fifth column could have hoped to defeat us. We’ll argue with each other again after radical Islam is dead.

End psychological warfare against Americans. Counter disinformation by explaining what radical Islam is and why we fight it. Release multimedia content patterned after the 1940s federally commissioned, Hollywood-produced documentary film series “Why We Fight,” which countered enemy propaganda, explained the evil of German and Japanese war aims and affirmed the justice of the American cause.

Remind Americans that the law of war is based on reciprocity, that our enemy is lawless and that the law permits everything and prohibits nothing that secures our survival. Deafen Americans to fifth column claims that our eradication of radical Islam is unlawful.

Convince Americans that it’s OK for America to win again.

Say “You’re fired!” to disloyal public employees who loathe the nation affording them safety and jobs. Rid colleges and bureaucracies of aiders and abettors of radical Islam.

Investigate and prosecute material supporters of terrorism who falsely represent the law of war to train and benefit radical Islamists. And charge treason against academics, media, and public officials who disseminate propaganda aiding and comforting radical Islam.

Mr. President-elect, by making us one people who rise up to defeat an evil enemy you can, and will, make America great, and safe, again.  Tonight’s landslide victory is your mandate to do so.
