A little revolution is in the air: 88% tired of big government’s restrictions

WASHINGTON, March 14, 2014 – Last week at CPAC, Texas Gov. Rick Perry energized the crowd by opening his speech by saying that what we need is a little revolution.

It’s time for a little rebellion on the battlefield of ideas. – Gov. Rick Perry

Although it is unlikely that everyone in the country heard that speech, Americans are fed up with big government overreach and are beginning to foment a little rebellion on their own.

The Founders feared “tyranny of the majority”—the kind of thing we’re seeing from radical Democrat legislators in Denver today and in Washington D.C. before the 2010 election. But what this country as a whole is experiencing is a tyranny of the minority. A minority of perhaps 12% of the population have captured the commanding heights of the government, the press, and academia and are asserting their will on the majority.

The other 88% of Americans don’t like that very much.

In Connecticut, legislation enacted after the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook requires that gun owners register military-style rifles and high-capacity magazines with state officials by the end of last year. But journalist Dan Haar of The Hartford Courant newspaper wrote that as many as 350,000 assault weapons remained unregistered and that “Connecticut has very likely created tens of thousands of newly minted criminals.”

That’s not all: 250 Connecticut state police officers have signed an open letter stating that they will not enforce the new anti-gun and magazine laws, which they consider to be a violation of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. With police reluctant to follow the law, let alone enforce it, and Connecticut citizens disobeying in large numbers, Hartford – that state’s capital – faces a significant crisis.

This is very much in line with Colorado sheriffs who refused to support last session’s unenforceable magazine ban—and even went to court to challenge it.

There’s more. While Democrats in Denver are unwilling to even consider any Republican bills relating to gun control, the fight has gone local. In El Paso County this week, the Board of County Commissioners voted to allow open carry in county parks, aligning themselves with a similar law in the city of Colorado Springs. At the end of January the town of Castle Rock—located along I-25 between Denver and Colorado Springs—voted to allow open carry in public parks and buildings.

It’s not just the Second Amendment that people are up in arms about.

In discussions all around town, people are fed up with restrictions on free speech and the free exercise of religion protected by the First Amendment. The Masterpiece Cakeshop case is widely seen as infringement on both rights.

At the Air Force Academy, there is a campus-wide rebellion against the forces of political correctness.

In the latest ongoing sparring match between the Academy and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), the MRFF insisted that a verse from Galatians, posted on a cadet’s personal hallway whiteboard, somehow created a “hostile environment.”

Mikey Weinstein, who is the Foundation, demanded that the cadet who wrote the verse be punished for misconduct. According to Family Research Council reporting, Weinstein said, “[The message] massively poured fundamentalist Christian gasoline on an already raging out-of-control conflagration of fundamentalist Christian tyranny, exceptionalism, and supremacy at USAFA.”

Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin (USA-Ret.) commented, “Once the academy allowed cadets to use these whiteboards for their personal use, censorship of religious commentary is unacceptable. Either the Air Force is very confused about the Constitution of the United States or they don’t really believe in the liberties that are provided by that document.”

However, Academy spokeswoman Lt. Col. Denise Cooper agreed, calling the display “wrong” and suggesting that the Academy use the complaint as “a teachable moment.”

Academy cadets, in a way that cadets have, offered a teachable moment of their own. Overnight, scriptures from Philippians 4 to Psalm 28 started appearing up and down dorm hallways on whiteboards in quiet protest to the growing culture of religious oppression.

A few cadets even quoted from the Quran, just to give the display a little multi-faith color.

Add to all this the fact that the Obama administration, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, has all but eliminated the individual mandate in Obamacare by allowing anyone to claim a hardship exemption. Claiming an exemption is a two-edged sword: by claiming it, the claimant validates the government’s right to require it in the first place.

People don’t even need to go there. The House is considering a bill to reduce the penalty for non-compliance to zero and key requirements have been delayed again until after 2016.

Outside the Beltway and across the country from Connecticut to Colorado, ordinary people, local government, law enforcement, and even Academy cadets are saying enough is enough.

When a minority try to force their will on the majority that is tyranny. When unjust and unconstitutional laws are passed, people will openly disobey or find ways around them. The legitimacy of those in power is questioned and ultimately lost.

Once the first small crack in the wall of invincibility appears, it’s all over but the cleanup.

Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. – Luke 6:22, posted in response

      It’s May 16….American Spring

    • let freedom ring

The American revolution was not peaceful and I don’t expect anyone will notice a peaceful march in D.C. Taking back the country will have to be done at the polls or by the use of weapons.

    • Scott

WHY just MARCH on D.C.???? Lots of folks can’t make it to D.C. for lots of reasons, but MANY A STATE HOUSE is closer!!! WHY NOT? also MARCHES on all and every STATE HOUSE, IN ALL 50 STATES on the same day!!!!!!!

  • Gordon Waite

Duh! Why do you think gun sales have skyrocketed? It’s not for fear of the possible loss of the right to buy guns in the future. It is to fight to get our country back from the power freaks Obama, Holder, Reed, Pelosi, McCain, and all the traitors that have sold not only their souls, but also sold us out for power, fame and riches. They must pay!

    • Scott

DO NOT EVER leave out the large Multi-National CORPORATIONS! THEY are as much BEHIND these moves to restrict and control AMERICANS as any one in D.C…. BOTH groups are EVIL, SINFUL GROUPS who are UNDER the “power” of SATAN!!
