One protestor on CNN, Alisha Williams (not pictured) is audibily upset, saying the police are lying by saying that the protestors were becoming violent. That they just wanted to kneel before the command center, hands in the air, when they started firing tear gas.  Ms. Williams cried that she win the military in Iraq for ten years and was never tear gassed but here on the streets of her own town.
10:39 CT:  CNN reporters on the ground are reporting that protestors have fired guns at the police and reporters. Steve Kastenbaum, a CNN producer, is confirming that the protestors have come violent and were shooting at the police. He also stated that the majority of the protestors are peaceful.  (10:4p om CT)
Kastenbaum is saying that a large number of protestors began walking, en masse, toward the police.
10:55 pm -HLN Law Enforcement Analyst Mike Brooks is saying that Law Enforcement is an a position of “what can they do?”  They are being fired at from the group, and if protestors are going to be firing guns at the police, they are going to respond in kind. People need to leave the area as it is impossible for the police to separate the protestor with a gun and the protestor without.
11:29 CT – Julie Boseman, National Correspondant, New York Times has reported that the police seem to not be arresting protestors. Boseman is reporting that her conversations with residents of Ferguson want the protesting to be over, and the rioting and looting to stop.

Lemon reports that at least 6 gunshots were fired, and there is a report that a police officer has been shot.
It looks like a war zone with helicopters overhead as the police have switched gears from protestors to protecting the businesses of Ferguson.
Ferguson will most like remain quiet during the curfew. As news of Brown’s autopsy reports are released, tensions promise to escalate.  The family is expected to speak to the media tomorrow morning at 9:30am CT.

I realize that the young man was bad news…but can someone please help me to understand why officer Wilson had to shoot him six times. ..particularly if the first shot was fatal?

Having voiced my dismay at the number of times he was shot, let me say that I fail to see how trashing your own community will bring you any satisfaction. You still have to live there, only now in much worse conditions, caused by you.I think that Michael Brown’s parents could do a lot to quell the looting and lawlessness with a few words.
