Chattanooga’s small town terrorist attack wakeup call must be answered

The horrific act of terrorism which took the lives in Chattanooga of five American military heroes has sent small town America a wake-up call which is unavoidable and undeniable.

WASHINGTON, July 22, 2015 – More marines were murdered by an American homegrown terrorist in Chattanooga than in Afghanistan so far this year, according to Fox News’ National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin this week. The horrific act of terrorism which took the lives of five American military heroes has sent small town America a wake-up call which is unavoidable and undeniable. Small towns are radical Islamic terrorism targets.

Chattanooga has raised flags throughout the city and the metropolitan area declaring with pride “Chattanooga Strong.” Yet, the harsh reality is that ISIS has placed a terrorist target on every military person, facility and recruiting station. Therefore, small town America itself is not safe.

Before Chattanooga, many small town residents may have become comfortable with the notion that ISIS terrorists and their barbaric actions would never interrupt their sleepy uneventful habitat. With the tragic deaths of America’s military heroes who were killed in Chattanooga, Tennessee by a possible radicalized Islamist 24-year-old Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez, that all changed.

The wretched deaths of Marine Skip Wells, Marine Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Marine David Wyatt, Marine Sgt. Carson Holmquist and Navy Petty Officer Randall Smith has sent heartland small towns a wake-up call, that radical Islamic terrorism is not just targeting large cities any longer. There is no comfort zone left in the nation.

In 2009, in President Obama’s first year in office, during his Arab nation apology tour, a Little Rock, Arkansas military recruiting office was open fired upon by Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, according to Front Page magazine. This terrorist action was allegedly based upon direct orders from Al Qaeda in Yemen. Private William Long died as a result of the attack.

Obama and the White House barely skipped a beat as the president continued with his edict to administration officials to strip the words “radical Islamic terrorists” and “radical Islamic terrorism” from any official verbal utterances or written documents. Now in 2015, while the evidence continues to mount concerning radical Islamic terrorism rearing its murderous head on American soil, Obama still refuses to acknowledge the truth. The truth is that radical Islam is at war with America and America cannot defeat evil until the president admits it exists.

It is crystal clear to most Americans who saw the anguish and pain that Chattanooga residents displayed over the past several days that a simple lowering of the American flag to half staff at the White House and on federal government buildings would have shown respect for the loss of the fallen heroes. But the president resisted.

In fact, it was not until five days after the terrorist attack that Obama folded to public pressure. But even that appeared politically motivated, because it was House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) who first announced that “Flags over the U.S. Capitol will fly at half-staff Tuesday in honor of the five military service members shot to death Thursday in Chattanooga, Tenn.,” according to the Washington Post.

True to form, Obama lead from behind, by then deciding to allow for the American flag above the White House to be lowered to half staff in honor of the slain military heroes.

Chattanooga may be the first successful small town terrorist attack in America but ISIS and its terrorists homegrown followers will try to insure that other small town attacks follow.

In October 2014, an assessment from the Army Threat Integration Center indicated that the Islamic State called upon its supporters to search through social media for addresses of military families according to Fox NewsOf special importance is one section of the intelligence bulletin which shows a jihadist tweet. The tweet called “on lone offenders to use the “yellow pages” and social media to identify the addresses of military families, and to “show up [at their homes] and slaughter them,

A month earlier, ISIS issued a directive which listed the type of targets that it wanted its terrorist followers to target. American schools, military facilities, malls and others were on its list.

The bottom line is that a wakeup call has been sent to small town America and Chattanooga may very well be the modern day Pearl Harbor for this generation of Americans. This act of infamy must not be allowed to go unanswered.
